Let's talk Northwoods

I was planning to keep this to myself, but I've ordered two of these now, so I feel safe in letting the community know. 😂 The best deal for a GEC knife IMHO right now NEW is the Remington Silver Bullet. It's a 72 pattern! I own a Sambar Stag 83 pattern and ordered the Remington Silver Bullet and thought it would be an 83, but when I opened it I jumped up and down and realized it's the 72! Genuine Sterling Silver Bullet shield, with burnt brown jigged BONE handles. The bolster and blade are not polished like my Northfield 83, but for the price, I bought another one once I opened and saw this knife.

Specs say 4 1/4" closed, so that would be the GEC #42, not the 72, which is 3 7/8".....

I believe Dave Shirley had something to do with this knife!! Possibly made by Queen???
Can anyone fill in the story of the Scagel reproductions???Lil Scagel Stag 1.jpgLil Scagel Stag 2.jpg
Such nicely fitted Stag!! Apparently Dave Shirley owned most of the original Scagel folders at one time or another!!!
They sold for $10s of thousands in their heyday!!! This knife is 3 3/8"!!! A reproduction of course!!! 😁

Gosh that was 20 years ago 🙂. Different people said different things. In the beginninng, in Knifeforums some said the parts came from Queen with assembly by Shirley. Dave Shirley stated they were made in Michigan on Knifeforums and in a short Knife World piece w/o being specific about who made the parts.

In the begining each knife was to be a replica of a real scagel owned by Shirley who also owned the name and mark. These early knives came in white hard plastic boxes with a red cloth pouch. I think there were 7-10 patterns. They were marked Scagel with a Kris on the blade and Custom with the year on the tang. At the beginning only knives based on a Scagel knife were to have the Kris and Scagel name. I believe Shirley became ill and sold the rights to the name and mark.

I own one, 2005 (I think) and the fit/finish was lower than Queen’s.There was no paperwork with knfe, I bought it new from a dealer. The edge was way too thick, gaps between liners, covers and tang. I had it reground as a scandi style and it’s now a great knife. The gaps are still there but the knife is tight and stong. If Queen made the parts for these patterns, they were not based on any existing Queen pattern I’ve seen. My knife is very much like Jerry VanEizenga’s custom Scagel reproductions.
