Let's talk Northwoods

It’s strange. I don’t think the other photo was to mislead, that would be an odd thing for a company to do. It’s clearly a barlow with a clip point in the previous photo. It would be odd if it was a recycled little bay photo too. I’m still holding out hope for a 78 barlow. Just checked little bay photos and the long pull overlaps with the bolster when closed. The long pull on the unknown knife stops before the bolster when closed. Mystery not solved.

I am back to looking at purchasing Northwoods again. I respect how they are not trying to reinvent the wheel, just to try to be 'fair', whatever that may be. I just can't get behind some lottery crap. Put them up, sell them. Not everyone will get one. Such is life. It ain't fair for everyone, because, that's impossible.
Rant off:)

I was of the understanding that the "other change" was due to a high likelihood of system failure issues caused by too many users accessing it at once, rather than the "fairness" concern.
I think that change was to get around the real problem (servers melting) and trying not play favorites when doing so.

Back on topic: where'd the Barlow go???

I’ve decided to sit this NW drop out. I’ve got a GEC pheasant feather on reserve and I’m not even sure I like this size/ pattern so no need for two of them.

Plus, I’m holding on to hope for a NW Barlow!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

My initial thought has always been that the mystery barlow just may be some special Rendezvous knife for later this year. Bill makes some throughout the year for that event. Just my 2¢.

If Derrick is following the production schedule, it would have made sense that a 78 pattern would have come before a 56 pattern. I'm guessing that either a) the photo he used wasn't meant as a hint as to the type of northwoods knife, or b) he's going to piggyback on the 77 frame SFO?

I am very busy scouring the web for info about the next Northwoods and stumpled on this old fb post from ksf. I laughed when I got to the last line. Nice success story.View attachment 838627

Looks awesome. Is that a dark denim (second from left)?

So these are made by Bark River?!

The photo with all the clip point blades could have been an old photo. It could have been a close up of the Little Bay.

This new one looks really nice, they all do in my opinion. Was just hoping for at least one cover option that wasn’t micarta or giraffe bone. Maybe a jigged or sawcut bone or even a wood option. Regardless, I am sure they will be a hit as usual. Good luck to everyone tomorrow

If the burnside is the new release hopefully it is the same as prior release which actually makes it a 55 with half stop. Correct me if I'm wrong, 56 doesn't have half stop and last run of burnsides did. If that's true I would be surprised if ksf calls it a burnside because the pattern numbers are different.

Looks like we’re both right, 56 Northwoods, not a Burnside!

Is it possible the picture that he posted a few weeks ago was just these blades unfinished and not clip points? That's my guess.

I'll have to see for myself tomorrow - this will be my first time trying to get a NW. Sounds like it's going to be a frustrating experience.
It was for me and I know some others .
Hopefully they made more this time and it won’t be as bad but just a hunch I don’t think it will help much .
Last time I got lucky and was able to get a nice NIB Delta jack on the secondary market priced fairly .
Here it is with my victory Beer :D

These are indeed some good looking knives. My knife budget is tapped out / spoken for, so I’ll sit this one out. Good luck to those who go for it!

I was thinking this, exactly.

My favorite NW is still this one-

I may try for a denim tomorrow, since my Esky Zulu has pretty shoddy covers in this material.

Was looking at the pic of the Fayette’s, love the look but to be honest as much as I like the rustic look, I prefer to use a full flat ground blade. Pulled out my Esky Zulu, thought to myself how nice would the Fayette have been with a Zulu style blade, they could have called it the “American Esky-mo”!

Yeah would very much like to see that one again. It doesn't seem to be in the current style they get them in though. The go so fast on the exchange I don't even get a chance to ask if the seller will ship out of the US. Both the Broadway and the Michigan are in huge demand.

Micarta and Giraffe every run over and over is no fun... Was really hoping for wood or ideally stag. Nothing wrong with Micarta and Giraffe, actually I like it. I also like pizza, but I can't eat pizza everyday over and over...
