Let's talk Ti-Lock - A photo essay

One correction...the dumbbell isn't brass, it's gold anodized titanium.

Blade man, I think you are mistaken. I am pretty sure it is brass, or bronze. It's used because it slides on the TI and doesnt stick or catch. You can scratch it and it's brass-coloured all the way through. I have deployed this knife hundreds of times now, and kept it in pocket. The parts of the dumbbell that slide across the Ti are still brass-coloured as are the thumbstuds. My gold thumb stud sebenza went silver in a couple days. I recall reading they were brass, and I believe they are (or bronze etc). Can someone back me up on this info, or prove me wrong?

Joe 58. Knife is no problem to deploy one handed for me. Watch the soloknifereview vid in the original essay. I flip this knife back and forth with ease, though I have strong fingers, so that might help.

I called CRK to confirm, it is indeed BRASS. I have almost talked my self into one. Kid your Killing me. LOL

Brownshoe, do you have the bead-blast finish with the brushed/shiney inside?...
Mine is the current finish, thus not bead blast. I like it better than the sebenza finish. It hides scratches better. The brass does tarnish a little when the knife is not regularly used, but the tarnish quickly disappears with use.

1. I ask the bearings/titanium question because the Brad Southard has a tiny STEEL washer between the titanium and the bearings of each ti slab, to protect(i guess) the ti slab. ..........but your points on this matter are very strong, for not needing the protection..........and yes, I don't think they needed the bearings, washers would have worked just as well.:)

2. joe58 The Ti-Lock is quite easy to open, I did it the first time attempted and I have bad hands.

Accordibg to the specs on the CRK website (below) it is "silicon bronze." Some googlefu will show it seems to be an ideal choice for the application...

I have seen no "breaking in" with my Ti-lock. It opens/closes the same as when new. The only change has been wear on the anodized spring and sometimes a little tarnish on the lugs.

I'm really curious to know now how I will like the Ti-Lock as compared to the small Sebenza.

Should be fun I think. :)

I'm curious about this as well. I am really intrigued by the TiLock but not sure I'm intrigued to place an order yet.

Someone previously mentioned a 2015 version with reference to gear patterns ala Steam Punk. Anyone know anything about this?

UPDATE: Nevermind. GOOGLE found it ... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Order-Your-Chris-Reeve-Blue-Steam-Ti-Lock-Now

Considering how small those slabs are on the Ti-Loc, that has to be some of the most intricate CGG that CRK has ever done.

Bravo to them. Beautiful!

Back when I was still involved in racing, we used Phosphorous Bronze valve guides in the small block Chevy heads because they have a "self-lubricating" property.

I really like the design and look of these knives, but does anyone else think they would look better without the holes in the scales ? Maybe it's just because I'm not use to seeing them...

I tolerate the holes but would prefer they were not there. The knife is very lightweight, so maybe the holes contribute a tiny amount to that.

I gravitate towards CRK because of the simplicity of their designs. The Ti-Lock is an exception to that simplicity, maybe due to the Hawks, but it's such a cool knife it's worth owning even with the ventilation holes.

It is deceiving, in the pictures I always thought it would a little heavy, but never bothered to check the actual weight. No doubt the holes do help with the weight.

I understand what you mean about the simplicity of CRK's. While the Ti-Lock certainly looks more complicated, there is still a simplicity to it if that makes any sense.

I used to drill and ream out those valve guides and install Phosphorus bronze guides many years ago..Ahhh..Nostalgia

Anyway,..I keep coming back to this thread and looking over the Ti-Lock..I think I need to have one in my collection..
Perhaps when my next project gets underway, I can use the proceeds to fund it...I want one to confound people that ask to borrow my knife. Only person I let borrow it is the wife. I'm guessing she won't want to borrow it.

Funny even thinking about lending her my knife..I offered to give her a small 21 that's sitting in the safe,..basically new, so she didn't have to borrow mine. Nope..She said it was like her giving me a sewing machine when I could just use hers.

Yep, the old days... :D

You are lucky. If I leave a knife laying around and the wife sees it, she isn't above tossing it in her purse

No thanks to you guys, I have one of these on the way to me now. I had wanted one for awhile, but this thread put me over the edge.

Yeah Cosmonaut, they're killin' us and our charge cards in this thread aren't they? I received my tracking number so it's on the way. Really needed another knife. Ha. When does need ever factor in right?
