Let's talk traditional, pocketable, fixed blade knives.

Lil Misery Whip from Alan Davis---one of my all time favorite---disappears in the pocket. Sheath also rigged for neck carry.

...Here's a City Knife from Eldon Talley ATS-34, Mammoth Ivory, 5.75" with a KSF pocket sheath.

I've got some more but a laggy Photobucket has already wasted too much of my time today.

Man that one really pulls me, thanks for posting Gary!

But... but... but.... You stopped before posting up your Fosters.

Here, let's fix that:

(Though maybe they're not 'pocketable'...? I never tire of seeing 'em.)

Thanks for the help Sarah. The Darkside is certainly pocketable. The other is a little to much for my pocket, although it's only 7 1/4".

Came across couple of pocket fixed blades that interest me personally. If the modell for the first one has been around since viking times you can't get much more traditional.

Wood jewel children's knife. It would not be much of a job to grind a drop point to that blade.

Then there is the Condor bushlore mini:

And of course many others like Boker Fitz with a stag handle.

My favorite pocket-size sheath knife is my BRKT Imp. Mine is from the first run, so it's marked Prototype.

Here it is next to a barlow, for size comparison.

I just use the stock sheath (same one that they use(d) for the TUSK), and slip it into my back pocket.

Ya'll are killing me....just ordered my third Bark River with ironwood in 2 weeks. Mini fox river this time. I have been carrying the BR city knife the last few days and in pretty impressed.

A big fan of the small ,pocketable fixed blade , I am. Great thread.

This knife by Rick Menefee has a blade design based on 5 blade Tony Bose Rogers whittler blade. It is an addition to my kitchen knife set,and I use it almost exclusively to peel onions. With it's Larry Parson's sheath it is very pocketable. I often think it would make a great field dressing knife for white tails.

I have pocket carried quite a few fixed blades over the years.

My favorite method is with a heavy duty pocket clip stitched to the sheath. I make my own.

Most of the fixed blades are not what I would consider traditional. It is the method that several custom makers send with their smaller fixed blades.
(Matt Bailey makes great sheaths like this)
It has a few benefits. Mostly, it allows me to cpomply with the some what vague, and overbroad concealed law here. It is also easy to reteive the knife, and re sheath after use.

Hi Ott,

If you were to buy only one of those essentials or mini fox in 3v which would it be? How does M4 perform vs 3V. Also how hard is M4 and 3V to sharpen/strop. So if only one which one Mini Fox or Essential. Thank you.

Suave

Hi Suave, I use a leather belt w/ Bark River Black then Green compounds to sharpen my 3V and M4 blades. I do use a strop on my A2. I wouldn't even think of a traditional strop for 3V & M4 steels. But that's just me. Many of the guys on the Bark River forum do hand strop their M4 & 3V blades.
But all of them will say that both of these steels do take more time to work with. Many just do a touch up stropping after each use, not letting them blade become to dull.

I do switch off between the Essential and the Mini Fox River for my EDC fixed blade pocket or belt carry. I have a great fondness for the Essential. I have owned 5 of them. Currently down to 4. I gave one to a friend who retired.

Hope this helps you out...

My regards, Tom

Can anybody post pictures and descriptions of how you actually carry these? for some reason the idea of pocket carrying a fixed blade makes my mind's eye go on a fritz.

I'm talking about a small fixed blade that fits a pocket sheath and goes in your pocket..... the handle won't stick out of your pocket.

Vince we use it to cut nuts on the ranch.QUOTE=VCM3;12679856]A big fan of the small ,pocketable fixed blade , I am. Great thread.

Here's one I like to carry in my back pocket.
Blade was a gift from ScruffUK, it's a Polar 95. Handle is some miscellaneous sorta-curly wood that was laying around my shop. Sheath is terrible, stitched out of leather from an old boot in about 5 minutes. Really need to make this one some nicer pants.
