Life after Becker.......

So apparently this is what happens when you take Becker out of your life.
The below evidence is based on scientific research. Kinda.

The sad thing is, they'll likely make significantly more money on these new ones than they ever did with Becker. You don't know how many people I've tried to talk into Beckers over the years who just could never fathom spending $50 on a knife. They'll probably lap these up--what with the awesome glowey handles and everything...

"after Becker"? wtf?

well... Becker was never theirs. it's Becker ;) they did not do Becker proud, and offered some bad knives, imho. i will not likely buy Camillus again.

KaBar is righteous.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/913763-Les-Stroud-Camillus-Knives-!

seems like Les did well with the Helle Temagami

this seems like a sellout

that big one looks interesting, but in the picture, he's holding it backwards? mmm.

440?

pass :)

i'll buy the Gerber stuff first before Camillus...

Hhmmm, that's sad. Kinda like it must have been watching buffalo bill being propped on his horse for his last show.

oh, they made a lot of money off Becker ;)

now that they are owned by ... over seas concerns? yes? i don't care anymore about Camillus.

Well I do need a knife to match my neon green and silver Dodge Neon with ground effects and cold air intake. :barf:

Money talks...I just didn't see Les selling out on crap like this...the Helle Temagami is a very good quality blade but this? Wow Les...wow...

I find Les Stroud intelligent so I'm probably going to give this a shot. The launching it with his next season, and to use the show to promote the knives doesn't have me swimming with confidence either.

Les Stroud should have quit while he was ahead with the quality offering from Helle. He was taking the high road there.

This line of Asian made crap from the now marketing firm of Camillous is a joke.

They were designed to compete with the Hollywood Bear Grylls Chinese crap that Gerber Hawks to Walmart.

Les Stroud just dropped MANY notches down the totem pole with serious outdoor folk.

What a sellout.

What the hell is Les thinking?

wait it must be the non-stick blades......nevermind

This is so completely corporate marketing using Les and Camilus history trying to sell cheap made in China 440 knives. No thanks.

"Titanium bonded, 440 stainless"?

Sounds almost too good to be true...

:barf:

Its just business guys. The walmart $30 knife buyer is the major part of the market. Few manufacturers can do the high end and also the low end. Kershaw does high with XT mid with kershaw made in us and low with off shore products. Becker stays high/mid. Most of the reputable companies stay high/mid. Spyderco seems to be able to do low well with some offshore products under the byrd brand. Camillus sue aint what it was in the 70's/80's and I dont buy thier products but again its just business.

I have posted about these on a few different forums but have been a bit soft on opinion as to not stir the pot but in the Becker forum I feel I can say what I think. It's embarrassing to see the Camillus name on these knives. Les Stroud is a smart guy and well respected and putting his name on this stuff is very disappointing. If he wanted to team up with someone to make an economical line of knives there could have been many better options than this. Mora for one and many others. Sadly there are non-knife people that will snap these up like they are the end all be all because they don't know any better.

I certainly have no aversion to knives made in China, Japan and Taiwan, I own 70 Spyderco knives but when I see a company like Schrade and Camillus taken over and shipped oversees it makes me a bit nauseous and this is no exception.

This sums it up very well I must say!

First Bear sells out and now Les!!

Very disappointing that he'd do such a thing; he's lost a bit of my respect but guess he has to pay the rent too...
