Thanks. I really hope I dont have to but she keeps crying(if thats the right term) and can barely walk anymore. She's not even that old either I cant remember the exact date but maybe 6 years old.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the breed of dog?

A couple years ago, our beagle slipped a disc in her back and lost use of her back legs. We took her to the vet, thinking we were going to have to put her down, and he gave her steroids for the inflammation. After a couple weeks of kennel rest, she was good as new. Now she is running around like it never happened.

This is where I went today.

Thanks for the hat Moose! It came along for a ride with me up the mountain today.

Todd, those M-18's are awesome.

Since I make smaller knives than you do, my scraps aren't big enough for tomahawks.
Here's a first stick-tang scrap knife. It's 3/16" single-side-ground A2 stick in a bit of walnut.
Worked out ok, and now I have something to build on for the next one.

Did I mention A2 in foil packets with sawdust comes in awesome colors?
I was going to shine up the big bevel, but was impatient. Might go back and do that later.
Perhaps it's a bench knife?

that sounds like injury, a slipped disk, hip dysplasia, a fracture, or possibly a tumor -- has she been checked out by a vet since the symptoms started? any lumps, recent bites by feral animals?

She was checked out about a year ago. Nothing broken. She's a chihuahua manchester terrier mix. The vet did say that one of her leg bones had something wrong with it and the tendon cant stay in place. They also said they cant do much about it though. I live by crappy vets though.

That thing is cool. The grind looks flawless. I love the colors. I was looking on your link and saw some similair pieces and was curious about there performance/function. Excellent work. Id love to play with one. Very interested in the A2.

if you know there's something wrong with that leg, you have 3 options:
talk to a veterinary hospital or college if you have one close by and see if they can offer a surgical solution to fix the leg that's within your family's budget.
talk to a vet about amputating the bad leg so the dog can be pain free - it should be able to learn to function on 3 legs just fine.
put it out of it's misery.

I might have to put one of my dogs down soon. This sucks.

Sorry for what you are going thru. We put my wife's dog down in March, and my former partner, a veteran of the World Trade Center and Katrina, about a month ago. He had just turned 16.
Fought with myself for a long time before making the decision. Funny -- I miss him more now that I did the first couple of weeks after he was gone.

QFT!
when you first lose a family member (yes they are), you're just numb.
2-3 weeks later when you start "waking up", you keep having moments expecting him to be there, doing what he always did, and that "phantom presence" flat hurts until the wound in your soul scars over.

IF we do have to put her down we'll (my family) miss her. I say if because its not 100% positive that we will. I appriciate the kind words it really means alot.

Two more days you hooligans, then I head out to Uncle Weirdbeard's!

I'll let you know when I figure out what the hell it's good for. :D
Thanks on the grind.. the shadow in the photo hides the fact that the whole thing is only done to 80grit. I shaped this scrap up while the other knives were cooking on Friday, and then threw it in while the oven was still warm and ran the A2 program again.
It's cool what can be done quickly when you release yourself from the notion of 1000grit finishes :p

Monday's suck...especially when you play hard on the weekends. Man, I'm sore today.

Safe travels to you guys headed to Ethan's!

There's something over in the Kabar Forum you might wanna see.

That is all.
