Like sands in an hourglass... these are the days of our knives

Did this thread just get derailed with delusional rhetoric?

You have nothing to teach me about logic, reason nor debate.

Maybe you are just incapable of learning. Nothing to do with logic, reason, or debate being discussed, (you have to learn to crawl before you can walk). Your posting the same trolling garbage needs to stop. Not sure how much clearer to make that. The problem seems to be on your end of the fence though, accept responsibility for your actions.

How about you stop attacking paying members for their opinions. Your vitriolic replys are the same as you came to be policing

@Leatherman - lighten up, or be gone. You've had many warnings; this may well be your last. I was going to ban you for continued idiocy, but would like to give you another chance to be a contributing member here. If that's too much to ask, continue to spew away.

Lynch away. Idiocracy is only hidden by the idiots. I only spew debate. Shared by other paying members. Curb this unbalanced public hypocrisy!
I've not had many warnings! I've had 2 warnings and 1 infraction.

What I love about this thread is that LeathermanGX is like the Joker to the Bladeforum's mods Batman. I can't get enough of the back and forth.

Modern folders with a pocket clip and easy one handed opening.
This...followed by the advancement of blade steels and locking mechanisms.
I got my first pocket knife somewhere around 1974 - a "brass" bolstered, wood scaled knife that was obviously an imitation of the Buck. I carried that style knife (getting larger versions as I grew) right through high school. Literally - as carrying knives wasn't grounds for expulsion back then (heck - I remember a few people carrying fixed blades at school)

As I haven't been into the "blade era" long as I was first introduced when S30V was top dog and it has since evolved into a plethora of knives.

I first had liner locks that we're at the time I thought were the "bee's knee's" but bought a Wayne Goddard Spyderco Clip It Lock back, I loved the VG-10 and then started researching which led me to here and it seems like it's a never ending.

I remember being in history class in Kansas, coach Witherspoon (our teacher) asked a good friend of mine "mr. Nunez, lemme borrow that pig sticker"

My friend proceeded to whip out his "NATO otf" (one of those prolific, junk OTF knives with cast pot metal, chrome plated bolsters and plastic OD green scales - usually sold in kit form). He handed it to coach, who took it and actuated the blade out, sharpened his pencil over the trash can, retracted the blade, and handed it back to him.

It wasn't weird. It wasn't illegal. It wasn't anything other than damn cool. All of us carried knives and coach just wanted to take advantage.

Ahhhh, the good ol days. :)

Wow. What was really said, an opinion. I thought he was right. Maybe stop micro moderating

I have to agree. I don't think LeathermanGX should have been banned. Kinda looked like the moderators were ganging up on him.

Likly not popular opinion but while blade steel and availability of quality knives has improved I also feel some things have devolved. I don't feel liner locks or frame locks are an advancement. They have made knives lighter and cheaper to produce, and made fun features such as flippers a possibility. But to me personally I don't feel they are superior to the lockback looking solely at the lock itself. I've also moved away from screw construction as I found that even with locktight applied I needed to adjust pivot and pocket clip screws all too often. To me it seems like overbuilt or thick bladed knives have become more prevalent, along with knives that have poor edge geometry or too much steel behind the edge. personally I have come to view these things as design flaws. I think the fact that knives are not as heavily used in modern society as a whole is the reason for some of these changes.

I know many don't share my views so hopefully this isn't viewed as an attempt to bash what others like. These are simply my own views YMMV.

I'd love to see some old style knives made with modern materials and methods. Don't really like pocket clips, not enamored of liner or frame locks, blades are too thick these days.

Now a slipjoint with a double ball detent mechanism, thin slicer blades, screw construction (especially the pivot), some nice rounded aluminum/micarta/g10 slabs...

No micromoderating going on. What you don't seem to see is the dozen or so PM's he sends afterwards. Posting troll meme's is all he really does, that is what he calls "meaningful debate and discussion". Maybe get your story complete and do a little research before being judgmental yourself? Just another opinion.

He was like a troll to. Bladeforums General Knife discussion bridge, maybe he thought he was the Joker, I don't know.

Not sure what happened, but he had 2 pages of infractions and warnings, and most recently he had been asked to tone down the trolling and make an effort to use words to "debate and discuss". He chose to bait, argue, and blame everyone else for his own actions. As for ganging up on him, that isn't accurate, but folks that bother searching can see that as soon as someone says "Sebenza" he goes into a frothy mouthed frenzy.

And that, that's that.

Thank you for that! And thanks to Rev too. He certainly had a one main purpose here. His constant trolling made this an unpleasant place because you knew if you responded you would be lowering yourself to his level and you would get into trouble just like he did.

To Gadt & jonnyt16, you guys clearly didn't see what he has done and the warnings he was given. All he did here was troll Sebenza owners and tout his mighty Spyderco. If you guys agree with his view points, fine. But the way he constantly and negatively expressed them was what got him banned.

On topic, I am not quite old enough (mid 30s) to understand the advancements from back in the day but as for now Insipid might be right about the more globalized knife market we have today and the quality coming from other places.

What's the biggest advancement to knives in my lifetime? That's easy. The Buck 110 Folding Hunter. And yes, I still have the one my grandfather bought me in 1964. It's been well loved and well used. :)

I'm still going with the Modern folder with pocket clip and one handed opening as #1.

In my first post I was also going to mention how important the liner, and then RIL(framelock) were that came along shortly after the Modern folder design.

Seems most modern custom and midtechs use the RIL these days, and have been for a while.

I didn't want to mention the framelock, and Chris Reeve inventing it while LeathermanGT was in the room though. Didn't want him to bust a vein and start quoting me with memes as if in W&C:p

A HUGE thank you to Rev, and Melvin :thumbup:

Okay yeah I was just going on what I saw in this thread. Never really seen this guy before. My bad, carry on.

Are you a knife guy or a bitch. O don't judge the sebenza fans. O. No. Then you go and attack me on another thread. My fucking point proven. Communist moderators. Ban me asshole. Show how pathetic you really are.
