Besides the Buck 110, I'd say there have been a few more truly pivotal developments in knives since I've been around:
1. Bob Loveless Drop Point Hunter.
2. Michael Walker linerlock. All framelocks are spinoffs of Michael's design.
3. Ken Onion SpeedSafe . . . the birth of the legal auto.
That's my short list.
+1 on the assisted opening pioneer, Ken Onion. He opened a HUGE can of worms, that has benefitted all those who dreamed of owning a switchblade, but couldn't. Speed-safe, the original "non-auto auto" He deserves the Nobel Knife Prize.
I still remember when ATS-34 just broke in to the production world (Benchmade IIRC), and 440C was the cat's meow, prior to that.
