No micromoderating going on. What you don't seem to see is the dozen or so PM's he sends afterwards. Posting troll meme's is all he really does, that is what he calls "meaningful debate and discussion". Maybe get your story complete and do a little research before being judgmental yourself? Just another opinion.

Are you a knife guy or a bitch. O don't judge the sebenza fans. O. No. Then you go and attack me on another thread. My fucking point proven. Communist moderators. Ban me asshole. Show how pathetic you really are.

Bye Bye !

Yea. Not you. I should have specified. Sorry

RESPECT THE FORUM RULES, SIR.
Take this somewhere else more aprapos, like W&C, or be gone. And based on your attitude, actions, and language, that conclusion will soon be a reality.

Oh dear.

Bladeforums is the biggest single thing to change the knife world, and other forums to a lesser extent...

I didn't know a whole lot about steel before I came here. I was an uneducated, ill-informed, no nothing when I came here (though I was significantly richer). A knife was a knife, some better than others. Never attributed it based on the steel used, but the manufacturing and to a lesser extent price.

In 1997 I had no idea what the ATS-34 meant on my SOG Pentagon Elite (liner lock). When the blades became dull, I went to my father's and he helped me sharpen it. He had freehand stones he used for sharpening fillet knives and fishing hooks.

I was at a local camping store the first time I saw a one hand open knife. That is what got me addicted. Wanting to replace the Pentagon Elite after it disappeared is what turned me on to BF.

It's my turn in the rotation to be "pathetic" so I guess I'll do it.

I would agree with this. I've only been into knives the last few years and there hasn't been a hole lot of dramatic changes. Yes, things like bearings and super steels are more prevalent but I don't think that can compare to the wealth of knowledge that is added to and shared on Bladeforums and other sites every single day.

Great post Banned K.O.D.. We'll hold it down in your honor. ;)

Besides the Buck 110, I'd say there have been a few more truly pivotal developments in knives since I've been around:

1. Bob Loveless Drop Point Hunter.
2. Michael Walker linerlock. All framelocks are spinoffs of Michael's design.
3. Ken Onion SpeedSafe . . . the birth of the legal auto.

That's my short list.

Unless you only pay attention to the posts that are on topic. Then it's pretty straightforward. Just got to let the riff raff control specialists shoo the flies away is all . . .

So it should be "All My Children" instead of "Days of our Lives"?

Don't forget the good work Doug Ritter and kniferights.org are doing.

I've being around guns and knives for close to forty years, and forgive me if I look at knives in general as weapons, before being tools for other jobs.
IMO the biggest advancements to pocket knives in my lifetime are as bld522 mentioned already - the Walker lock, but I like to go with the bigger picture and would say:
1.) The protected locking mechanism.
2.) One hand opened blade ( Spyderco hole or thumbstud)
3.) Pocket clip
4.) Wave feature

...It probably worth to mention Internet and the ability to learn things from forums. I had some knowledge before the end of nineties, but Internet and forums like this ( particularly this-one) are where I learned much more.

For me, it would have to be 2 things:

1. The one handed folder with a pocket clip and great steels, e.g., Spyderco
2. Bladeforums. This place has given me such an education I can't begin to describe how much I appreciate it.

Thanks for dropping the hammer, mods! Another thing I like about this place.

I am going to say that the Internet has had the biggest impact on knives over the last 15 years.....

Forums are a huge part, but also the ability for makers, companies, and consumers to interact, see new products, and learn has sped everything up in terms of what's out there, how fast it changes, and how easily we can all access it or information on it....

The Internet allowed for the knife community to grow by leaps and bounds, and to be global.
The ability for a large group of people to discuss anything, will ultimately have a large effect on what that thing becomes.

Makers/companies are reading....

I wonder what knives would be available right now if there was no communication tool like the Internet...

All of you on topic thank you, I thought maybe I'd have to just close the thread but that would just be giving in to those who cause chaos and I don't want that. Good points as well, I also see the effect the Internet has had on knives. If there were no Internet then I wouldn't have the majority of knives that I do have. I myself haven't been into knives long enough to see many changes, but I do believe there is going to be many huge changes in my lifetime, just because of the nature of the industry and because science is giving us so many new materials to work with and making the more expensive ones cheaper ...but that could be said for really most industries I guess.

For me, other than the fantastic steels and lock types that's available, I really love the many different blade shapes that are present in folders today. I think its refreshing to have tanto's, recurves and upswept (persian) type blades to name but a few. In the 110 era it was mostly simple clip and drop points. For me the personality of a knife is characterised by the blade it sports, everything else is just the support system in making it shine... Literally! Great thread!
