Lion Steel Dom

My slip joint being a second carry, it goes in the bottom of my left front under my wallet where it's safe from being marked up, so I'll generally carry it bare. If my pants are looser or I'm wearing cargos, I'll use the slip as I just like it.

Mine was more or less a Catch and Release. Carried it for a few days in a pocket slip so that it would ride vertical in my front pocket. I liked it, but I like watch pocket carry a lot more. It was a little too thick for the watch pocket , so down the road it went.

i've been using a slip with all the CK hybrids, and actually all my knives except the new TC ancient barlow. carrying the ancient sans slip is liberating so may try others too.

I have the ebony Dom and have enjoyed it quite a bit. I like the ease of opening by having the wide spot near the tip of the blade.

I also have the issue with my blade stop being slightly misaligned. This is the same with my stag Shuffler. My rams horn Roundhead and carbon fiber Roundhead are all fine.

I remember attempting to press the liners together with a clamp to get the pin flush, but couldn't quite get it.

That was the issue I had with a Micarta and swapped out and have same issue with the replacement Ebony Dom I got. I popped the bolsters off to get a better look and the spacer is definitely too wide to pinch it through. So it seems it's gonna be stuck like that unless I want to do some sort knife related surgery to it, which I probably will at some point.

Now I got a Bocote Shuffler a couple weeks ago off the exchange and it was absolutely perfect. I can see there is a slight gap on both sides, but that's supposed to be there. The gaps are at the same location and are equal length on both sides. My Dom has a two wildly unequal gaps that travel more than half way down the frame. I've definitely noticed it gets way dirtier than my Shuffler has.

Now you got me looking at all 4 of mine. The two with the blade stop that's not flush on both sides have more of a gap in total and the gap is more asymmetric. I remember taking one apart (95% sure it was the stag Shuffler) to remove the copper paste lube because I did not like the looks of it. I spent a lot of time cleaning and re-assembling and being unsure if I'd ever get it back together.

I don't know if I want to engage in any knife surgery, I have a hard time with reassembling slipjoints at my kitchen table.

I remember whenever I asked about that issue, knifeswapper(aka the owner of CollectorKnives) told me that these knives do have a little gap because of the washers I believe.

If I had a way to snap better pictures for a comparison I would, it's really night and day. The Shuffler looks like it was 100% perfect from the factory and just like it should look like. I'm not concerned with the gapping on that at all.

The Dom(s) had/have uneven and wider gapping that definitely didn't look right, and like I said I popped my Ebony open just to see if I could fix it myself, and there's no easy way to do it. I've considered sanding it down a bit around the top edge, that may work.. Or taking a Dremel and grind one or two very small lines vertically to see if it thins it just enough.

But for now I'll live with it. I actually didn't have much trouble getting it back together, they're much easier to disassemble opposed to the pinned slipjoints. A few sprays with the air compressor seems to do the trick too, the gunk in mine is mostly pocket lint.

I bought the ebony version. There seems to be a strange uneven "shine" to the scales. Not sure if that's normal..

I applied some medium scotch-brite to my Ebony Dom to even out the shine/luster of the wood.

Been a couple months now since getting my micarta Dom, it has been used quite often in the rotation, and shared a pocket with keys a couple times, and has been run through a ton of cardboard and plastic...it doesn't show any marks yet from pocket carry. Tonight I finally got around to sharpening it up for the first time since getting it, just a little freehand on a DMT red stone, it took a really keen edge with only a short amount of work, I love the primary grind on this blade. I love the way this knife snaps resoundingly upon opening and closing it. It is narrow and light, so the knife rides unnoticed in my shorts pockets. It has been along for dozens of many mile bicycle rides and not a spec of corrosion anywhere, ... Wait! What's that? Oh my...there are a few pepper spots on the back spring inside the well!

Guess I better freak out and get this thing under a microscope and figure out why!?! Nah, I'll just just hose it with some WD 40 and drop some mineral oil in on that spring and keep on truckin'.

Can't say enough how happy I am to have the pleasure of owning and using this great little cutter, well done @knifeswapper .:thumbsup:

This may be a bit late, but do you know what the backspring is actually made out of? I've had one helluva time trying to figure out what it is. It's not really important, it's just nice to know those type of details.

Between the Shuffler and the Dom, they've been in my pocket every single day since I've gotten them. Between the two... I have to say I really love the Dom the most. The blade shape is absolutely perfect for what I need a knife for. Plus her Ebony dress makes her look sexy as hell. The super fine "point" is a beauty for when I need a precise cut. And the walk and talk, oh the snap on my Dom is perfect. Weirdly enough, it got better with time.. Started life as a 5, ended up at like a 7. Perfection.

I may have to score a Roundhead just to complete the holy trinity, or at the very least snag another Dom, haha.

I like my bone micarta roundhead spear so much I want another .
My dilemma I can’t decide between the Walnut , rams horn and stag ?
Help a brother out lol I’m leaning towards the Walnut just because I’ve never had a Walnut and you don’t see many at least I haven’t but man the other two choices look nice !!
Edit: On a side note the BM proper with the Tom krein regrind has really peaked my interest but it’s a few pennies more .

There have been a lot of really cool rams horn show up in this thread but I think Mike said the majority favor blond. The stag and rams horn are supposed to feel bigger in hand so if you have big paws that might be a consideration.

I've had one walnut handled knife and it was amazing to look at. I think it was the nicest grain I had in a knife as it was really dark but not so dark that the grain pattern is very subdued like with ebony. This was on a queen 48 whittler. It just had that timeless look whereas some of the woods with the crazy grain seems like it may get old or look too busy eventually.

They're baaaack ... and they're now slim!! Got my newsletter from @knifeswapper earlier in the week. Mike started it out with ..."OK, so I am awful at communicating. And even a worse salesman." Well, I don't know about all that .... but he sold me right away. Made a beeline over to CK and picked up my LionSteel slim Dom dressed in brushed copper. Delighted would be an understatement. I do love copper!!!

I almost bought one but I had custom copper scales made for mine a while ago. I prefer the copper with Ti bolsters to the full copper scales.

Is that an actual adjustable pivot screw now?
Yes. Mine is rock solid, so have not tried to actually tighten or loosen it. Not sure if LS uses any kind of bushing on this. Pretty sure the Thrill model modern slip joint uses a bushing or bearings, so the pull is very smooth.
