Lion Steel "Roundhead" Euro-Barlow

Mike, if helps you pull the trigger on these faster Im fighting the urge for the Abalone as well. I personally believe any of the covers listed will work, not just the carbon fiber. Titanium looks great with a good used look. The snail trails add character and over time it tells a story.

For those who wish for more stainless options I cant think of a better stainless than m390 imo.

Again, please let me know if you do international shipping and how I can opt in if you do so.

If not, I'd recommend finding a BF member to receive and forward the knife to you. There are plenty of us around here that are honorable, trustworthy, and willing to help out a fellow BF member.

They do not offer international shipping. Depending on the laws, and if these are actually made, I can ship it for you if you want to work something out. Just send me an email at kbas2mail@gmail.com

Mike I think it a looks pretty darn cool. I put my name on one in stag as whats not to like. Stag, titanium, and M390.

If I had to point out something that should be tweaked (based solely on the picture) I would like to see the pull extended a little more to the tang....Purely for asthetics as it looks highly functional for pinching open where it currently is.

Looking forward to this one.

Am I alone in thinking that this was a potential swan which emerged as an ugly duckling?

You are most certainly not.... I like their Traditional interpretations of Moderns see post No.56 for example but not their Modernized Traditionals like this one, too big,too many Torqx, not Swell End like a Barlow is but a strange EE. OK, clearly I'm in the minority but I don't mind ;)

A march for knife? Calling cover screws non traditional would be stating an alternative fact. Cover screws were used 147 years go by Miller Bros. ...I'm not sure about bolster screws but it seems like a reasonable way to assemble titanium bolsters and liners.

I didn't realize that it was a special order. Good for you, Mike.

I have a little experience with M390 since I sharpened a friends knife and got to try it. I'm not at all familiar with Lion Steel.

It seems like a smart combination of modern materials (maybe construction also) and an old time pattern. It's a surprisingly open market despite a seemingly large and growing interest in modern/traditional knives.

The Lucky One (with clip removed) is a neat slipjoint. But it's not really a traditional pattern and the design doesn't make much sense to me... a full flat grind and more traditional shape would have been better in my opinion.
I had the CS lucky. I ended up trading that one out. I loved everything about it, except for the pocket clip which I couldn't get over.

Screws aren't a new concept for traditionals.

I thought it was you but wasn't sure.
Hope you didn't mind me using it.

No problem at all. I was just making a joke by complementing myself. :D

Cover screws were a trademark for Miller Bros. They weren't intended to be disassembled. A lot of modern knives aren't intended to be disassembled even when they have screw construction. iirc, disassembly voids Spyderco's warranty for example.

I hope this is successful for Mike and I look forward to seeing this market grow. There's a lot of room for expansion. What's next? Open back construction? Lots of cool opportunities.

I am hoping for success as well.
The concept of being able to make new/extra handles, with out splitting the knife.

I put down a for sure on the horn, and really, would be happy with either of the variations rye_a posted. They all look good! I would agree with JustinR about the nail pull, but it's definitely not a deal breaker since I will be pinching it mostly anyhow. Thanks Njbillk for the recommendation, once I pull some dough together I'm gonna do that. I'd thought about asking Tom Krein, but I'd like to find some other folks who do a great job too.
You know, if this had an awl and a lock, it would be close to my "perfect" harness jack. ;) Maybe down the road...? Nah probably not I'm guessing. This is making me kinda excited to handle now. :D
Thanks, Neal

Mike, I gather from your post that this knife is manufactured by Lionsteel for Collector Knives, what will the branding be? And, in keeping with the traditional aesthetic, it doesn't have a pocket clip does it?

Branding: Lion Steel. Re-branding just complicates things in my opinion.
Clip: No

I wasn't sure on the size 3 3/4. I love the size but most of my knives are already at that length. Mike, if these are profitable enough, do you see any other "traditional" SFO down the road with this company? I wouldn't mind a matching ram's horn and m390 stockman :D

I have been looking thru some OLD catalogs to find other patterns that I think might work in this context. But have assembled no plans at this point.

Mike, any idea whether you/Lionsteel are going to use the lighter cream and brown rams horn (1) or the darker horn with a lot of black (2)?

I expect an assortment, but everything I have seen from them lately is the caramel color in smooth or lightly textured.

Yours is really pretty, Mike. It's hard for me to pull the trigger on cocobolo without seeing the actual knife. You think the other cocobolo will have similar grain and coloring? Regardless, it looks like there isn't much time left to decide!

It's hard to get a box full of identical natural materials. Thus, I expect an assortment.

Question: How thin of a grind are we talking? Is it comparable to GECs thinly ground blades?

Spine is 95/1000" and it comes to a very nice edge. Not thick behind the cut.

Great offer from a great guy.

I ordered the rams horn when these were put up for reseseve and now just added the abolone.

I'm telling myself it's because of further clairification but if I'm honest with myself, it's because I'm a weak man when it comes to buying knives.

Overall I think it looks great, and I commend you for stepping up with this collaboration. It's about time someone brought something like this to market, and it looks like a winner to me. I reserved a Cocobolo. My only tweak would be to make the long pull longer, but its not a deal breaker for me at all.

This knife absolutely screams for Mike's natural canvas micarta.

You can knock that off right now! I've reserved 9 knives from CK this week alone including 2 Roundheads. BUT...I would take a natural micarta. [emoji6]

I can't tell you the last time I was this excited about a knife!
