Lion Steel "Roundhead" Euro-Barlow

OK, I went round and round. Started thinking I wanted to try rams horn, looked hard at abalone, and finally decided CF was the way to to with the modern steel and ti bolsters. I don't think you can go wrong with any covers on this though. I hope there is another run with a blade shape I prefer more, but I guess this fills a hole in my Barlow collection, as it isn't normally a blade I'd go for in GEC barlows.

Lionsteel is a reputable maker and I'm sure this knife will come out very nice.
Their work on M390 and their grinds should make you folks happy.
I'm not going to buy this knife, but it's nice to see an Italian company making another step into exploring the slipjoint world, and even more since they're doing it with a great dealer.
Good luck for this project :)

this is exactly how it went for me. and i'm hoping for another blade shape more appealing to me, but it's the start of my traditional collection.

I'm the guy who often said, "Why can't we have a traditional knife made from modern materials?" I have found a few but nothing with the reputation of M390 so I had to reserve one for sure and a definite maybe on another. Just so you know, I too was conflicted. Having planned to curb my acquisitions this year, I am now hoping that having a Roundhead on it's way will help to slow the purchasing process. For the next few months I can tell myself, "I already have a new knife, I already have a new knife, I already have... it just hasn't gotten here yet, it just hasn't gotten here yet... You'll just have to wait..." I'll let you know how it works out. :)

Edit: Mike, how much might it cost to stamp a beautiful "L, S" into the bolsters?

No problem at all. I was just making a joke by complementing myself. :D

Cover screws were a trademark for Miller Bros. They weren't intended to be disassembled. A lot of modern knives aren't intended to be disassembled even when they have screw construction. iirc, disassembly voids Spyderco's warranty for example.

I hope this is successful for Mike and I look forward to seeing this market grow. There's a lot of room for expansion. What's next? Open back construction? Lots of cool opportunities.

You should check out a Spyderco/Mike Read PITS (with the clip removed, and pretend the Spydiehole isn't there)

Will you be supplying the stag, Mike ?

No, it will be the stag the Lion uses on their other models. Any stag I could pick up and get shipped to them would greatly increase the price. I am not expecting really popcorny stag; but have not seen a bad one on their other lines.

Don't know, but it would really make the bolster busy.

Brett needs to keep those type of thoughts to himself.

...
Sorry Mike. :(

John, in all fairness that was pertaining to modern one handers, not modern traditionals. :D

...
John, don't count on the secondary market my friend. :D

The last two times I thought I was "done" with pocket knife purchases were both undermined by Mike's SFO NF Barlows in 2015 and 2016. You're not going to get me this year, Mr. Latham!

I'd love to be tempted with a run of nf 77 barlows...

I tried to hold out...Put in a "sure" for a carbon fiber:)

What's the width and length on the bolsters? I've got a slab of meteorite I've been trying to find a use for...;)

I think it would be a good addition for me , but about the time they come in , we are scheduled to be on the Rhine .
Would really like to have one in Ramshorn .

I had other examples in mind but I'll check out that one. There are lots of old lock designs (even 100 year locking barlows) but there are some new designs that might make interesting traditional/hybrids. Spyderco could very easily make a barlow with a compression lock (like on their Sage 5), for example.

Don't want to take this discussion off topic though.

Yep, these are going to become very popular with modders and backyard tinkerers and become the canvas onto which a lot of very cool ideas are applied. I really can't wait:thumbup:

Mike, I think this will sell very well. A really, really good modern blade steel on a triumphantly resurgent pattern. I'm not a hater, it's just not my brand of whisky - the frame size and shape just doesn't sit right to my eye and the screws in the bolster don't do it for me.
I hope all who want them manage to get [emoji4]

Different horses for different courses I guess. It does absolutely nothing for me either, but then, I like gnarly old clasp knives! :D

I might give this one a shot if secondary market pricing is right, or a good user presents itself.

It would be great if Lion Steel produced different covers and bolsters as individual accessories one could buy.

An all titanium barlow or the ability to pick and choose materials would certainly be something I would be interested in.

Horn covers with a nice ironwood or ebony bolsters or mammoth and ivory would be interesting.
