LionSpy (Spyderco version of SR-1)

Yeah ,I like the elmax in my 0551.it cuts like s30 (wich I'm not in love about) but the edge retentiion is very nice.not that I ever plan on abusing a folder but elmax is said to be very tough as well. One day I would love to grab a fixed in this steel.I think the high hollow grind on this knife will help this steel cut fffffoorreeevver

I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that the final version will have an aluminum scale, I presume instead of titanium. If so how will that work? Will it have a steel liner underneath, or what? It looks like there's a separate liner on the frame lock side on that picture on page one on this thread.

Not sure if anything changed since Blade, from what I got from both Sal and Gianni, it will be titanium and g10. Also didn't see any liners in the prototypes that spyderco and Lionsteel booths had

..not sure if production will have black or green g10

Negative. It's the Ti machined to equal exactly 1/2 of the handle, the G10 is also machined in a similar way (Each side of the handle forms 1/2 of the backspacer). Think integrated backspacer (rather than having a 3rd piece. I surely hope there is no aluminum in this knife, aside from maybe the tin they ship it in.

there are some frame locks made of "aluminium" rockstead make some, it's not plain aluminium but a special alloy that is elastic enough to act as a spring without needing steel.
the SR1 aluminium is probably made from the same alloy. don't know about the lyonspy.

Exactly.

..and how would they justify that price if it's gonna be aluminum?! Highly unlikely.

As much as I like the look of this knife, and I do, I just can't do it. I like the blade shape with the hump and hole on it, and the thoughts of trying out the steel being used. I have an SR-1 already and the LionSpy would be a very nice compliment to it. Why then can't I do it??? I simply cannot stand the knife having two different handle materials! Make it all ti, or as a linerlock with G-10 on both sides, and I'm in line for sure.

As I said in my other post, this is not a bash on Spyderco as many, many people like the concept of G-10 and titanium handles, I just don't. I tried a ZT0300, not once, but TWICE, and just could not get used to carrying it, and ended up trading both of them. I'm afraid this is what would happen to the Spyderco if I were to get it. I hope Spyderco knocks a homerun with it, and I suspect they will, a grand slam at that!

You know something............when you're anal, YOU. ARE. ANAL!;):)

I really like Spyderco and I really like Lionsteel products,I was initially excited when the news of this knife first broke ,however after finding out their doing the combo handle configuration g10/Tit.(major bummer)almost reminds me of the partial serrations blade kind-of thing. I am not interested at all-so I'm probably just going to pick up a ZT 0777

The knife you metnion has a subframe lock, while different in a design aspect, the concept is similar (2 materials to make the handle).

The thing that makes the SR-1 a really unique and desirable knife is the full integral titanium handle. Take that away and it's got nothing to offer me that a few dozen other G10 and Ti framelock knives aren't already doing.

In this picture, it clearly looks like there's a line separating the metal scale, that's why I asked about a liner.

Concerning integral locks (RIL, or compression), I'm not necessarily a titanium fetishist. I'm actually very curious about the idea of an aluminum RIL if there's a steel tip on the lockbar and an over travel stop on the knife. In general, I also think the idea of an aluminum integral compression lock where the very part that is wedged between the stop pin and blade tang is made of steel is kinda interesting.....

I completely agree.

I'd still like to have the LionSpy, of course.:)

Personally I am not put off by the G-10 at all. I think the SR-1 is an awesome design and it looks perfect Spyderized. The problem to me is not the steel, the insert, the Ti, the G-10, or anything else. This is a very expensive Spyderco, and while the price is certainly justifiable, I think I have just been overly spoiled by the incredible values I have become used to. That being said, I will probably end up owning this knife.

It offers Elmax steel, which I don't believe is offered in any other G-10/Ti knives already out there.

I think the "line" you see isn't caused by two materials side by side, but by one piece of Ti reflecting the light differently, with the difference caused by one surface being flat and the other being a sort of rounded/beveled shoulder (if that makes any sense).

I like the design of the knife the blend of G10 and Ti. But with what I have been seeing the street prices listed at I would rather pony up the $50 or so extra dollars and get an all Ti knife with Sleipner steel knife. Not bashing but with the price so close I dont see a reason to get the Spyderco when you can get the original that is was based off of. My 2 cents.

Would prefer larger screws instead of itty bitty ones. But I love the blade :)

Wonder if I could just exchange this blade with my SR-1. I much prefer Elmax and a Spyderhole.

Agree that a wire clip would be nice. Perhaps a thicker wire clip for sturdy looks. :)

There is also another ti g10 elmax coming out from another company for 100 dollars less
