Props to Thomas Linton for clarifying my own reaction.

Yes, Lisantica may be rock solid in past transactions and really means well, but in a handshake agreement (and that means a lot to me) she reneged and pulled away within 90 mins.

The OP, could have walked away, yes. This isn't that important. But this forum specializes in clarification, and we are getting a good lesson on how quickly things can go awry.

mdc5162: You need to learn from this and follow up ASAP.

Lisantica: You need to learn from this and be a bit more patient.

ALL of us: We need to learn from both. I am.

Communications.

They both agreed on the terms of a deal.

Buyer should have paid right away or said I'll be at my computer within 2 hours.
Seller should have waited for the money anyway. Life happens, the deal was made.

Both lost out on a good deal, but ... they'll be more communicative next time. Bringing it up here gives us all a chance to talk this problem out.

Luckily, thus far, the conversation has been very civil. When I cut a deal with someone I attempt to leave no ambiguity in the conversation, possibly to the point of over communicating. This situation right here is the exact reason I do so. The only actions i can control are my own. If I clearly communicate my desires and my future actions then if a deal goes south I can critically look back and see if I left a hole open. If I did then I feel that the failure is on me: if not then I can reasonably defend my dissatisfaction.

BuddaBing, BuddaBang, Buttafucco! We have a winner! :D

SharpByCoop is right-the fact that the deal fell through is testament that things could have been done better.
No offence to our lawyer members, but please lets not make these sales threads something where we need an attorney. I have seen a couple threads with a full paragraph dedicated to legalize-what constitutes a deal, right to refuse and so on. It is just a knife, if you miss it another will come along. This should be fun. Just my 2 cent opinion

Source please? Where does the OP or the seller say he waited after reading the acceptance? How long did he wait? That's not how I read his claimed facts, but I could have missed something you read elsewhere.

Also, how many times does one have to state an offer before it's "confirmed"?
The ball was in the seller's court to accept or reject the OP's offer. She accepted. Then resold. According to the OP this happened in 90 minutes.

grybsh7, I merely have an opinion, based on some experience, that a 90 minute gap between making an offer to buy and payment would not be regarded as "unreasonable" by the typical jury. They would not go in to the analysis either PO'd by being ripped off by low-life buyers OR already impressed with how nice the seller here seems to be. In fact, such folks, nice as they might be, would be eliminated (if honest about their experiences) on the grounds that they could not be objective.

Why do you think reselling 90 minutes after accepting the buyer's offer is OK? (By the way, how long, experienced sellers, does it take PayPal to transfer money into a seller's account? 90 minutes? Less? More?)

Should the OP have waited at his computer to see if the Seller accepted his offer? How long? Would it have been reasonable for him to think his offer was rejected if he did not hear back in 90 minutes?

If he was permitted to leave his computer after sending his offer, how long could he leave?

paypal transfer is instant.

There is no set rule as to waiting period, acceptance period etc......
The seller reserves the right to sell to whomever they choose.
NO tranaction happened, so this thread was an error on the OP's part.
If the OP sent an offer for anything other than the listed price, he should be prepared to answer and pay immediately, or send a message as to when he intends to pay immediately to the seller. He did not and the knife went to the next offer.

This thread should not be here.... and now that it is, should have a name change.
Because the OP is just as culpable as the seller if fault is to be found.

^^ I agree completely.

I recently sold a camera flash on a local forum.
I received payment from a member. then another came along and offered substantially more.
I refunded the first person and added some extra as an apology.

If a better deal does come along, at least let the person know about it and try to make it right before risking your name being tarnished.

Now that would warrant a thread in this forum, IMO.

Well, I think you just did to yourself, what the original buyer apparently chose not to.

What!!!-Totally wrong in my opinion. Once you have been paid for the item, it really isn't yours anymore. You are just the agent responsible for properly transfering the item to the new owner.

This buyer is right, I did sell to someone else:
I did sell to someone else...I assumed you didn't want it as I asked you to get back with me. And when you didn't pay (I assumed you were online because your light was green), I had to sell to someone telling me they'd take it.
I was desperate for money....if that makes me a bad seller, I can't help that.

Yes our transaction went south...yes I knew you wanted it, but to me you didn't pay. I did not know you were away from the computer, it appeared you were online to me. I was desperate for money....Maybe I am a bad seller, so if anyone doesn't want transactions from me I can understand. Sometimes I get desperate for cash.

As for me backing out of a purchase from SharpByCoop, can you please send me a message to refresh my memory, I would like to defend myself if possible. I only recall backing out of two deals, one where the person changed the original price and one time when another knife came up for sale and I made sure that there was a person in the wings ready to buy as I would not want to leave the seller high and dry.

Your on my do not deal with list....

The knife is gone and is in transit to the new buyer....if anyone has an idea on how I can rectify this with the person who originated this BAD feedback who is angered with me, please let me know. I am completely distraught and demoralized and just sick over this.
I am lisantica on ebay, fredmiranda, USN, JD, and many more sites...I try to take pride in my dealings.....I made a mistake.
I am terribly sorry. I feel as though my online reputation is ruined at worst and certainly tarnished.

this is why most people add the disclaimer "sold to the first I'll take it".

She may have acted a little in haste, but that is her choice.

I think you shouldnt worry about it and you did what you thought was right at the time. The OP should have paid immediately.I hate when a buyer leave you hanging there. Not 100% sure and you're needing the sale. These people love to judge others and feel superior. You're cool to all but a few here so dont sweat it.I would deal with you without hesitation.
