Little knives rejoice!

Now there's a heck of a vision!

I'm sure Guyon is joking but this post in Knife Laws kinda follows my thinking.

Man oh Man. I hope nobody in TSA sees that Trand. I just know it'll make perfect sense to them.:)

Dont rejoice to quickly. The Air Marshalls and Flight Attendant groups are pushing back hard on this. I dont see enough will on TSAs side to risk a strike or something like that. They most likely will give in.

Yeah, I can understand that. As knife nuts its easy to focus only on being able to carry a peanut and very easy to overlook the underlying implications. :)

You know darn well TSA did not make the change to cater to us knife nuts..

No apparently is was to streamline the check for contraband and to fall in line with a more international practice. I dont think it will be hard to get them to reverse their decistion given the ramifications of the AM and Flight Attendant unions.

Can anyone measure the blade length (open, tip to bolster) and width at widest point on a GEC #68 White Owl?

Jeff,

It's just at 1/2" wide (I wouldn't want to leave it up to anyone's best guesstimate!), but is clearly too long, at roughly 64-65mm (my pictures showing it at closer to 63mm notwithstanding-- perspective is a funny thing, through the lens):

I measured earlier today after reading an erroneous report that it fell within guidelines. Whomever came to that conclusion probably measured just the sharpened edge, not from the bolster.

Sarah, thanks for the quick response, I had the same mis-trust of the previously posted numbers, it's why I asked again.

If it is narrow enough, the clip blade models could be reground to fit the regs, if one were so inclined.

-- I'd be interested in the width of a White Owl clip blade, simply because the spear main on my White Owl-- clearly at .5"-- is narrower than that of the clip main of the Pemberton. While the #68's spear blade's width is consistent throughout, spine and edge in parallel, the Pemberton's clip's combination of rise + belly smidges it at/over the line. I wonder if an Owl spear would do the same?

I believe a mini copperhead would make the cut. But mine aren't going to fly either. I am not about to get into a contest with a TSA agent and lose any of my knives. I'll just buy something when I get there and ship it back to myself when I leave.

One question to be asking is is the knife being carried legal in the airport you are traveling to, from, or through? Another is is it legal to have any knife at all in the airport you are traveling to, from, or through?

I'm from Massachusetts, and knives are still illegal on planes here. Since there is a state law restricting any knife, the tsa rule doesn't change the law. Heard that on the news.

They're not just illegal on planes in MA but illegal to possess in an airport in MA - a felony punishable by up to 5-years in prison.

Oh I didn't know that part. I mean I guess it's safer, but it's not fair to knife nuts lol

There is a MA state senator who was a LEO on 9/11 and he worked with the MA Legislature to pass that law. Later on he was elected to the MA Senate.
