Local knife shops

SMKW is about 3 hours from me, and we definitely hit it anytime we are vacationing in Gburg/Townsend/Pigeon Forge, but 2-3 times a year one of my closest friends and his wife and my wife (also besties) make a day trip up there (usually SMKW, Buds Guns Shop, and Chesapeake's in Gburg.) Have even done it in the snow! WHAT A WAY TO SPEND A DAY OFF!!!! :p

We have a local place here in Midlothian, VA but I've never been there. Saw them at a local gun show a time or two. I need to get over there and see what they do.

Is that the store near gatlinburg my coworkers keep telling me about?

There is a locally owned outdoor store about 10 minutes away that has a great knife counter. I buy almost exclusively from them. They carry a ton of well known brands. You also never know what you’ll find in there since it attracts trade ins from all the local knife enthusiasts.

I used to frequent the local hardware shop in our town that had been around for a very long time, guy who ran the gun counter always had a good selection of knives. And there was a store like an army surplus store that still has a good supply of knives, and now Bass Pro shop has a good selection, as well as Ace, Tractor supply and Gander Outdoors. The local one we have about 30 minutes away is known as Greentop, hunters supply, but they used to have a good selection.

One nearby here, Castle Gate Knife and Tool. Not much there for me at my last pass (I'm a traditionalist), but a pretty good shop and nice folks.

Just curious, do people have dedicated knife stores in their towns or sports stores that have them?
All I have is a local gun shop that has a small selection of Spydercos like the native or delicas and some Benchmades, Houge, and CRKT. Our sports stores are even worse. Maybe one Buck knife and a few Swiss Army knives. Wish there were more local shops to see models in person.
Every shop that carries knives near me sell them at or above msrp except one, and that one only sells Microtech and Benchmade, neither of which interest me.

I'm in the Detroit-Ann Arbor area and aside from a gun shop and a few hardware store counters, I haven't seen much else around. There's a Cabelas in Dundee, which I may check out someday. I wondered about pawn shops and the kinds of knives that typically end up there.

There is one knife only store near me on the VA coast. Decent knives, prices on the high side. A lot of fishing specific knives. A few tactical and outdoors shops that also sell knives. I kinda know what I like and dont like so unless Im just browsing to see whats new then ordering online is just convenient…. Not knive related but a Field and Stream of all places had an archery guy at one time that was really good at what he did and could hold a conversation about it. Not too many of those people that Ive found anywhere that would know more than anyone here in regards to knives.

Northern Knives is a nicely stocked store here. Blades are also available at most sporting goods/gun stores, Cabelas, Sportsman’s Warehouse, etc

That’s a great shop. Probably the best in the front range. One of the few places you could handle CRK, Spartan, Medford, Curtis plus benchmade etc. you’re right tho not a lot for you traditional fellas

We have a great shop here in Durango. Surprising for such a small town.

About 50 years ago in Palo Alto, CA, Williams Sonoma used to be a knife shop.
I'm in the South Bay Area now, Stevenscreek Surplus has a pretty good selection.

My son moved to the Ft. Worth area. His apartment is about 2 blocks from the biggest knife shops I've see. It called House of Blades, just off the 820 in Lakeworth. Excellent selection and great staff.

There is a gun store here that is a Benchmade dealer. The hardware store has Buck and SAK. Cabela's here has a knife section that is reasonably large. Least but not least, there are 2 or 3 guys selling knives from TV at a farmer's market.

Here's a map I created a while back that's intended to feature most of the Southern California knife stores I'm aware of (with a few special ones beyond), along with some commentary:

I used to have a knife shop near me, sadly it didnt get a tone of traffic so it folded up. They tried a second time but eventually had to close when rents were going up. Now, Im fairly limited to mostly buying on the forums or friends who live in other states.

Thanks for this!

American Flags & Cutlery is a nice shop and carries several good lines. I wasn't aware that the Army Surplus store in Simi sells knives...will definitely check them out.

Going Gear is still kinda close, they moved a bit further away about 45 mins from me now. Olde town cutlery is about 90 mins. The Hale brothers have Case XX knife store, old school brick and mortar. They set up tables at Blade show and others in the Southeast. They are about 30 mins depending on traffic
