Lon Humphrey Knives ~ Info & Pics Wanted

Brett, I looked at buying one but thought it was too small for my needs as a fixed blade. Since I was in the market for a fixed blade, I purchased a Bark River Adventure II.
It should be here this week and I pretty excited about this one. :)

I guess the whitetails are bigger in Michigan too !:eek::rolleyes::D

The Muley or Whitetail would skin a deer in a whipstitch down here. Scapel sharp too !

Daniel Boone would have throwed away his Bowie knife for these knives. He lived in my home town, ya know ! ;):D:D:D

What handles did you get on the Adventurer II Marko?

Daniel Boone would have laughed at your toy knife Roberto! :D He killed Bears, not Chipmunks!:D

The handles are Cocobolo like my Liten Bror BRK.:)

Good call on the Cocobolo !:thumbup::D

What's wrong with Chipmunks ! :confused::confused::confused::barf::D:D

Stop it...you guys are busting my sides laughing!! Can't wait to see your pics, Brett. It doesn't matter which one you choose ...they are all sweet:D

I shared the same opinions Markesharp, I looked at the dimensions and photos for a long time and realised that it was going to be a three finger knife for me with the pinky resting alongside the butt of the knife. The muley caught my eye as well but I ended up with a Bark River Adventurer I for a good price. I would say the muley is the perfect marriage of a long enough handle for full grip and leverage and a great deal of belly! Let me know how you like the number II. Looks great still as a larger knife as well as well as 20CV.

Awesome pics Primble!

Thank you for the visual aid.

I just flipped a coin. I'll let you guys see it when it arrives.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Flipped a coin !!! Why did we have this thread then?:confused::confused::D

A coin over opinions every time here on BF ! :D:D:D

Well, the coin actually landed on the edge and never fell to one side or another. :D That tends to happen to me a lot when buying knives.

The thread was to help me decide between makers, not just the handles. I was hoping for more input from others, but the thread took a turn and not many seemed to have anything to add. Figured I would follow VE's lead and just see what happens.

Most of the questions did get answered. Thanks for emailing Lon.

I'll add a bit more for future readers when mine arrives.

I've been eyeballing these for a month or so, now. I'm definitely interested to hear what you guys think when they come in. I trust Primble's opinion and all, but once in a while I might actually have to clean an animal that's larger than the knife in my hand and I'd be interested to know how these knives would hold up to that task. ;)

Either way, they are just cool looking knives.

You guys that are saying that you need a larger knife might be missing the whole point on these small knives.

I think they were created to be comparable in size to a medium pocket knife - a fixed blade knife that can be comfortably carried in your pocket every day.

If you are going hunting for deer or other larger game, it would make sense to go to a larger fixed blade, but, for every day, I would take the smaller knife every time.

Every time I had a larger fixed blade, the larger size eventually caused me to leave it behind, except when hunting, of course.

Think of them that way and they make a lot of sense. :)

I think you've hit on exactly why a small knife is so alluring. There are tools for every chore, no one expects a knife under 6" overall to replace a full sized hunter.

Primble,

Agreed. I do not plan on using this one for hunting, all deer and hog cleaning jokes just for fun. I carry the Drew with a good four finger grip for that.
Edit: Though I am sure the whitetail would do the job, especially if you have to get up in there, but there are better ones for scapel type work.

Im wanting the whitetail just as you said, an edc that rides well. The main reason I went with this one is because it is not overly produced to where others have one just like mine. I repsect how these are made and do think they are an amazing deal for the price.

I believe Cory may have the same thoughts and was giving me a bump, but I could be wrong. He does edc a 23 :D

Brett's exactly right. I have been carrying around a Battle Horse Frontier Valley, which is about the size of Lon's Muley and similar in style to the Muley and Whitetail. It's been a great knife for me, but it's a bit too big to slip in the pocket and I have to wear it on my belt. That means that it gets left home a good bit, as Primble eluded to. I have been contemplating a little bit smaller fixed blade as I have come to really like using them, and have been on the fence between a Lon Humphrey and a small Bark River. I'm hoping that we get some more people chiming in about their Lon Humphreys. There's plenty of info out there on any version of Bark River I care to look at. I was attempting to get in on the fun with my jab, probably not well delivered in hindsight.

If I ever have occasion to have to skin an elephant, I do always carry my 23. :D

Thanks Roberto, I just bought one! I hope your happy Mister! :grumpy::eek: I will skin a cow with it and give you my feedback along with QUALITY photo's to really see what the hoopla is about! If it doesn't skin the cow in a "whipstitch":confused::eek: I'm calling Daniel Boone!:D:D

Mark, can I get a few sheaths done when you tan the hide. A horizontal with a paisley pattern would be nice. :D

We need more pics in this thread!

I know you guys have them and can compare them to other knives, size wise.

Enabling you made my day !!!:D:D:D

Dan'l would have liked it too, although he probably needed the Bowie quite often back then. He hunted every day for his dinner - times change !

I am likin' the little Adventurer II. I think I am going to sale my Humphreys and get me a couple of them now that Mark is enabled ! ;);):D

I didn't see anything wrong with that post. ;):D

looks like quite a few of us are on the same wave length.

I've been eyeing Lon's work for awhile now, ever since Doggorunning's first vid on him a few years ago.

I don't really need a fixed blade, as my Ka-bar handles all I need, but his knives are so nice looking and apparently perform excellently.

You can't really beat his prices either. I've had my eye on his Kephart model. Looks super useful.
