While i never posted on this forum and never thought i would need to. I think this is something worth mentioning.

While i have been on this site buying and selling knives for a long time. I never purchased one from the lone Ranger before. So this is my experince when i aksed him about NIB Spyderco he had for sale.

I emailed him I would take the knife if the blade was centered. He repleid the knife is brand new from Spyderco. So I asked again and explained that they do sometimes come from the factory with a leaning blade and could he check to see it it was.

then i got this reply:

"do me a favor pass up this purchase i do not want any problems these are spydercos not rolexes"

All the while he never answered the question if the blade was leaning when closed.

Next!

I think the LR is making a decision to not sell to you, he has that right. He doesn't want to deal with a potential nightmare and is saving his time by telling you to move on.

It appears to me that you are planning to use anything he says against him if he can't guarantee something out of his control.

You are not supposed to give negative ratings if there is no transaction.

I'd avoid you as a Buyer as well.

in reply to this gentleman he emailed me stating he only had one hundred dollars in his paypal account would i settle for that amount i stated sure gave him my paypal account and waited next i get a email asking are these knives in perfect shape are the blades centered and that he had ten spyderco knives being repaired because of not centered blades i replied knives are new in boxes but did not address issue with perfectly centered blades to my great error [i could see trouble coming with this buyer] i told him these were spydercos not rolexes, he sent me email stating i must be avoiding issue i replied please do yourself a favor and avoid this purchase all went downhill from there and thats my story

Not all business is good business. It's probably best that both of you walked away from this deal.

Actually that is not how it went. But it sure makes me feel better that I posted this now.

No I just asked him if he could check to see if the blade is leaning. That's all.

.

I have been a member here since 2005 and bought and sold a lot of knives. Never had a problem once.

Check my history.

CWL- are you his sidekick or something?

Courtesy and Communication is everything...i can't stress this enough.
If i politely ask an honest question, i expect a polite and honest answer.
One need not read anything else into it.

That being said a seller or buyer has every right to choose whom they will do business with.

Now....
Before this devolves into yet anther pissing match about who is wrong or right, I'm going to ask that all posters have respect and please discuss the matter and topic, not each other.

The deal was never made. No money or goods were transferred. No harm, no foul on either side. Negative or Positive feedback is not in order in either direction. This is a non issue period. Probably should never have been posted here in the first place.

The way things are playing out I tend to not blame the Lone Ranger for backing out quickly.

 This Isn't Even An Issue And Shouldn't Even Be Here. Lone Ranger Decided Not To Sell To You, That's His Right.
You Had A Right To Ask Your Question, He Chose Not To Answer And Chose Not To Sell To You. So Really What's Done Is Done.

The Problem Really Isn't A Problem At All, And Should Have Never Been Brought Here.
You Can Ruin Someone's Name Or Make It In The GB&U.

With This Not Being An Issue, No One Sold Or Bought Anything, And No One Was Hurt, Then There Isn't Even A Problem Here To Solve.

So, My Advice, Take It As He Just Chose Not To Sell To You And That's His Right.
Do Not Assume Things Because Your Question Wasn't Answered.
Lone Ranger Should Have Just Provided A Simple And Honest Answer To The Question But Chose Not To And Chose Not To Sell To You. This Doesn't Mean He's Not Honest, But Yes Even NIB Knives Can Be Slightly Off Center, If You Strive To Make Good Sales, This Is Important. Blade Centering Is Always A Question In Someones Head Most Times, As Is Lock Up.

That is correct. And since I never had a problem with someone being so short fused about a common question i found it odd. Odd enough to make a post about it here. I also found the quick temepered reply to be impolite and it caught me off guard..

Tough call on whether this should be here or not. If it was me. i would like to know about odd behaivior and see if a pattern developes over time. If the seller was having a bad day, then no harm was done because it won't effect his future salesmanship.

Hopefully this will make people think twice when responding to normal questions. Yes the knife is new. But does it have blade play? Does the blade lean? Does it have an early lockup? Those are all common questions even if the knife is NIB.

Some posters already answer theose questions in their for sale ad. by stating: "tight lockup" "No blade play" " perfectly centered balde" when posting a for sale ad.
or just take pics of the blade closed and of how far the lockbar is over when it is open.

Wether this should be here in the good , bad and ugly. well it wasn't bad. It wasn't good either. But it certainly was UGLY!@ :)

Sorry, maybe I am being dense but I just don't see anything on here to warrant a thread. There was no transaction and there doesn't seem to be anything outside the bounds of what I'd call "professional banter". I mean...why is there a thread like this? To be honest, this thread makes me less likely to trade with the OP then with Lone Ranger...

I guess I don't get it either. As the OP said in his post, "Next!"

Why the heartburn? Maybe he knew he couldn't make the OP happy.

I deal with one guy here that I buy about three knives a year from and have for about three years or four years. I called and asked him about one of his knives that looked pretty dang nice in the picture (stag), but he woudn't sell it to me as he told me his newest shipment didn't look that nice. Quote: "The new ones I got were just butt ugly, I don't know what happened. I would rather not sell them to you."

I liked that. I was disappointed, but would have been disappointed AND pissed off if they were indeed "butt ugly" when I got them.

Maybe on a less personalized level, he was just trying to save you both parties some grief. I would be thrilled to be kept out of a bad transaction by a responsible seller, no matter how his post might have appeared to me.

I would think this venue would have been more responsibly used if there had been any transaction, not just a report on hurt feelings.

As we say, it isn't a deal until both parties are happy. Since the potential seller felt uncomfortable dealing with this buyer, he avoided any further discomfort by simply refusing to deal with him.

One of the best ways of avoiding bad deals is to sell only to people with whom you are comfortable. Save time, save money, save aggravation, if it doesn't feel right, don't do it.

It's nothing personal, it's just a business tool.

Seller sells to who he wants to sell to.

This is a non-issue and probably more reason for folks to carefully consider who they sell to..................

I honestly didn't know this forum was only for deals where one lost money or a bad knife ect was sent out. in other words a "completed" deal.

I have had hundreds of transactions on knives and never had such a short snooty response, i thought i needed to post a warning to other potential buyers/sellers.

The transaction did not go back and forth . So there really was no reason for the seller to feel uncomfortable (as many here suggest) , it was just plain bazzarre and rude etc. Like i said i have been doing deals here for a long time and on other forums and i am pretty thick skinned uindividual as it is.

Since I never complained about anyone before I thought this was the correct forum (is there a forum here for this?). So i ask the mods to move this into its proper forum !
