Lone Wolf Project: Post All Your "Experiments" Here

Jackknife and El Cuchillo, you're insane! A single knife for a whole year? I sure as hell couldn't do it, I mean a week of use is as long as I can go without switching knives.

I have been thinking about doing something like this for a while. I think it's a great idea.

I would very much like to join in the experiment (if you don't mind me tagging along).

I think i will use my ss peanut.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Well, unfortunately I have no mentor around here in the flesh to help me out, but yes sm2, that is part of the reason I am doing this, to experience what the generation before me did. To learn to use what is at hand, and to use one;s imagination when doing it.

here, here!

Experiments can be repeated over and over again even if the outcome remains the same. it's only true, in many cases, when it's true FOR YOU. A single knife is adequate FOR YOU, when you have lived it and proven it by trial.

I personally applaud the effort and look forward to an interesting year.

Good luck to everyone that is going to try this experiment.

I will admit that I bought too many knives in the last year because I thought that I needed them. Oh sure, they are nice to look at, but then the problem comes in as to which one to use. There is time wasted as I switch back and forth with them. I always feel as though I should have used a different one.

My whole point here is that all that I basically use is a knife and a screwdriver. I hardly ever need a pliers or something else. If I do, I can just go and get the tool that I need.

I think that I will try this experiment with my Schrade 34 OT.

sm2-

Yes, we're living in a buy now/pay more later economy. Folks are buying stuff they don't need at prices they can't afford, with extra fees tacked on for finace charges from the credit card companies. I remember my folks saving for things, both money and green stamps. (Remember those? ) In those days if you didn't have it, you didn't spend it. Dad bought a new BBQ grill with green stamps.

I carried a Harrington-Richardson 20 ga youth model in my adult years. It was a good gun, and didn't weigh as much tramping through all those fields scaring up the quail coveys from the fence row brush. Compact and light is good. And I still swear by Smith and Wesson revolvers. I have one that is from 1972 and has had thousands of rounds through it over many years with zero malfunctions. None. Zip. How many wonder autos can say that?

I've never had bream and eggs for breakfast, but I still can taste the fish cakes and eggs. Mom could make the most wonderfull fried fish cakes, golden brown, with a dollop of sour cream or a couple of easy overs on top. One thing about being from a fisherman family, you eat alot of fish and crab cakes. I think grandmom had a hundred recipies for crab, oyster, and fish. Could change it around enough that you didn't mind it three times a day. All good eats.

I watched my dad do the two sticks thing with his 4-way pocket screwdriver. He went as far to tie them together to get more twisting torque on the screw. Tighten it up real good. Then he put his shoe lace back on, tossed the sticks and put his Sears keychain screwdriver back n his keychain and off we went. No, dad wouldn't abuse his peanut, he was real fond of that little knife and treated it with respect.

Mentors are a good thing for a boy. They teach you well by example.

Good luck to all. I've kind of done a simular experiment since last Oct. My experiment has been to see if I can carry only one knife (at a time). I've done it but my one knife isn't the same knife every day I still switch them around. Not sure I could only carry one knife and not my others, and even if I was to try it I don't think I could pick the one to carry.

If everybody decided they only needed one knife, the knife companies would go out of business!:p I'm not going to limit my knife uses, I'll buy those that I can afford and use them as I feel like switching around. Some get used more than others, and some I decided I disliked enough to trade away or sell, but I still have about two dozen to choose from, and all get used a little bit somehow or the other. I ain't gonna cut up a deer with a peanut, nor am I going to open up the mail with a folding hunter!

Well, I wish you success, but I think you should go sit in the shade for a while with a cool beverage and think this through.

I thought I was doing good finally taking some of the safe queens out and carrying them....

As someone else mentioned, I think you should treat yourself to that new Case Damascus Peanut.. If you are going to carry the same knife for a year, thats a sweet one to do it with... :D

My hats off to both of you.. Good Luck

I am gonna try to follow Jackknife and elcuchillo in this wild experiment.

I wasn't sure whether to create a new thread, but I didn't want to hijack el's thread.

i am going to use my stainless steel brown delrin case peanut.

I'm curious to see how it goes.

Good luck all.

Brett

Good luck on it!

Me myself,I'll run the risk of an STD (slipjoint transmitted disease),as I rotate my slipjoints. If that makes me a slipjoint slut so be it,but that don't make me a bad person, lmao!!

LOL!!! Honestly, if I had your collection, I would probably be kicking myself right now.

I am pretty well. Oklahoma is treating me just fine.

Take care,
Brett

So, the next question is, if you do make it for a year with just the peanut, what are you going to do with all the knives you have that you "don't need"?

Maybe sell 'em real cheap to us poor forum dwellers? :p ;) :D

I think you'll do well, and I look forward to hearing the stories that come from this.

I've gotten along quite well with a SchradeUSA Middleman and a keyring SAK Classic, for several months now.

thx - cpr

Maybe a pocketknife and hunting knife. No multitool, unless of course it's part of your job to have one. That's a different story. I had to put away my cherished Leatherman myself. I live with a Leatherman strapped to my side, and part of the experiment is to NOT have things done for me (as the other tools on a multi do). I have to figure things out for myself making do with what I have..... a pocketknife.
I see where your coming from and carrying a multi tool would really water down the experiment. Not sure I am willing to give mine up tho. Good luck to you both, I'm sure you will do just fine.

Isn't it nice to have the same EDC stuff all the time? A guy likes to keep stuff well kept unless he can give it away, but I think there is a certain pleasure in having "my good old"<insert item>. I still think they both will do very well. Hopefully looking at, opening, and buying doesn't qualify as knife tasks.

. . . I am vowing to not use the term "slippy" this year. It's too girly :o:rolleyes::D
