Lone Wolf Project: Post All Your "Experiments" Here

It sure would be a lot less unwieldy if one thread (this one) was used to compare notes amongst yourselves and others who share your interest.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, and that is why I am taking this spiritual journey, Miyagi-san!!
You wash the cah..... wax on, wax off........ always breathe, neva forget to breathe.

I normally use and carry my Case Amber Bone Canoe, with a backup of my Case Amber bone trapper in my back pocket, kinda like a small fixed blade but slippie.

If I could find a nice Amber bone Canoe with equal blades in a spear point and clipped blade, that is what I would use.

Ok, so today I was at work and my Peanut had a pretty good workout. First thing in the morning, one of our birds got out, and we had to catch it, hoping it wouldn't fly into the main lake..... where the gators live. Well, we kind've cornered it, but it got past me and took off. Luckily it hasn't flown in years, so it's wing muscles aren't that strong. It didn't get much altitude. However, it flew into some cargo netting and got all tangled up. Out comes my Peanut and makes short work of that net. The bird was secured and returned to it's enclosure. No harm no foul. Later we had to capture one of our 13 foot gators to inspect an injury. Well, the thick nylon lasso we used got tangled dangerously around it's neck as it death rolled, and began to really tighten. Not good. One of our guys whips out his tacticool, but dull as a butter knife, it was a no go. The rope was too thick. Another co-worker took out his cheapie multitool, and again no good. So, from the gator's back, I take out my Peanut and carefully perform a series of small, short cuts on the rope, trying not to cut the gator's skin, until finally the rope snapped and was off his neck. The last chore of the day involved some PVC piping. One of our pumps was being redone, and an existing PVC pipe was going to be used. A smaller one was being put into the existing one, but it had a bunch of old glue and gunk in it, so it was hard getting the small pipe in. I took out the pen knife on my Peanut and used it to scrape out all the gunk from inside the pipe, allowing a much better fit. My Peanut had a busy day today, but it worked like a champ.

You guys remember the scene in Vacation when Chevy Chase was considering jumping into the swimming pool with the pretty blonde? He uttered a phrase I'll never forget. "This is crazy, this is crazy, this is crazy!!" And it is. I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm in. I'm sweating the fact that I have to put my SAK mini-champ down. My daughter always asks to use it. 365 days a year that thing is in my pocket along with my slippie selection of the day. I have different knives for just about everything I do. My biggest concern is when I'm in jogging shorts or PJ's. On those occasions I clip a Spyderco in my waistband. Not sure how I'll get through this one, but I'll give it a shot. I may have my buddy Jerry the knife maker help me put together a sheath with a small belt clip for those occasions. Not trying to ramble, just trying to figure out how to make this happen. Like I quoted earlier, THIS IS CRAZY!!!

Oh yeah. My selection is going to be a Case 4 blade congress with yellow handle in CV. I'm a multi-blade lover and think that I'll get by a bit better with this than my peanut. I really want to use a CV knife, so I can get a nice patina for all of my sacrificing:D. One caveat though, since I'm in a suit all week I may need to switch back to a peanut or small stockman, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Gosh, I really like where this is going. Again, thanks for starting this.

I also think the 'One' thread is the best way. i will no longer write in mine.

maybe we can start a list in the first post of this thread with all the folks who are taking part and update as folks fall off and join up?

Brett

If you guys want, I can merge the other (previous) threads into this one but they (all the posts) would be in date order. Not a problem if you don't want to do that. Just let me know.

This thread doesn't need a sticky as it will be visible as long as people are posting to it somewhat regularly.

since I am a johnny-come-late, I am fine with whatever you all like.

el and jk should make that decision.

Thanks blues.

Brett

Done. Play safe and have fun fellas.:thumbup:

ElChuchillo,

Since you own the thread and can edit your first post, why don't you start a running talley of all of the folks that are in on the experiment? Might be too much trouble, but thought it might be interesting.

I like the idea, kind of like an ongoing blog.

So far a day and a half now with the 303 cadet. No withdrawl problems, quite the opposite. Now that its under way, I feel kind of light. No desisions in the morning what knife to carry. Putting on my jeans in the morning its going to be the same edc now, everyday. There's something kind of zen about it. Like when Musashi gave away alot of his things to go live in the cave to concentrate on writing the Book Of Five Rings. Once the die was cast and the other knives boxed up and put away in a storage closet, it got easier than I thought. Out of sight, out of mind?

I went about a normal day, and the little stockman got used to cut some twine to bail up some newspaper for recycle, break down a few cardboard boxes for trash, cut open a package containing a mini-blind that got mounted over a window. Once I reached for the classic on the keyring hanging on the carabiner on my left belt loop and it was a strange feeling when it wasn't there.

I wonder if it gets easier as more days go by and I get more used to just the little Buck in my pocket?

Interesting timing of this whole thing. I just got back from a bow hunting trip and I purposely took my peanut out in the field with the goal of dressing a deer with it, so I could brag to you guys. The land owner only allows bow hunting for bucks and to make a long story short I only had one shot and I decided to let the little guy walk. In any event I was mentally leaning in the direction of using a small knife for big tasks and this thread pushed me over the edge. Good luck to all!!
