Long term project / test knife - bushfinger

Well,
All of our local phone books were thinner than the novel that I started with (~2" / 450 pages), so decided that the book was too long, and I needed a shorter story for summer reading; thus I commenced my work. 30 push cuts later (moderate force, with weak hand bracing the spine), my new novel was a more palatable size. The bushfinger was still able to julienne slack news print after this little test with ease. Climbing rope should be here tomorrow, and I'm also getting some ship yard rope (>3" diameter) from a friend later in the week. In the interim, I'm off to the kitchen (with the test subject) to help the Ms. prepare dinner!

Work in progress

Slack cutting newsprint after our initial test

Today was a little ad-hoc, but follow-on testing will be more empirical; I just had to break the ice. ;)

I like to see it still slicing newsprint after that test.

Does the handle of the knife shrink noticeably after the sandblasting?

Nice job on the novel...most fiction needs a little editing anyways...

I'd like to see how the knife performs as a crowbar and as a screwdriver. :D

And surely it can be batonned with a hammer through a cinder block :D

I'm keeping tabs too. I'm someday going to have a sapphire burlap one coming my way. It's going to be great to see these blades put through the paces.

Little known fact: I drove my Delorean back to the Middle Ages. Excalibur was indeed forged by Andy's descendents and was in fact, the first BF.

Its in the blood

Awesome stuff guys -- I plan on taking a few pages out of CS guy's playbook :D. In the interim, this weeks continuing test plan will include cardboard push cutting, rope cutting (still waiting on rope), feather sticking, and maybe some truncating. I've also got an upcoming AT trip in a week or two where I might actually do a brief video review as well.

Meat-filled boots, and summer ham knife fighting is still up in the air, but I have a feeling that this is going to be a fun, long, (and messy) test .

BTW, I plan on doing all of the above without sharpening -- gotta love 01.

If you don't mind me butting in?

I've glass blasted a lot of... well, stuff. G10, micarta, titanium, niobium, steel will show a different finish, but won't suffer in terms of noticeable shrinkage. Only a really high resolution mic could tell a difference I'd reckon.

Exactly, I'd say negligible at best.

of note -- I'll have some new pics up tonight from my feather sticking extravaganza and stacked cardboard cutting test.

Just getting caught up on this Will. Definitely worth following along.

Well, while attempting a 50 feather stick challenge the bushfinger bit me. Just got home from the ER with some cool new stitches. Testing will be suspended through the weekend and will resume Monday; I'll get some obligatory knife wound pictures up tomorrow ;).

Sorry to hear that Will. Was your hand in a leather boot? :p ;) Hopefully it wasn't your F5 finger. :) All joking aside, I hope that you have a speedy and full recovery.

I have a bite story of my own coming out soon as part of another thread.

Take care my friend.

Phil
