Looking for a 5" Sharpened Prybar

Have you checked out the offerings from TOPS? they have a hellacious selection of pry bar type knives. The one that's sticking in my mind right now is the Sky Marshall. It looked a little silly when I first saw it, but those three serrations are freakin' impressive, and the knife is as close to an indestructible design as I've ever seen. Also was wondering about a CRK Shadow 3, Mountaineer 1,or the Ubejane?

slightly OT, but that Atwood looks incredibly handy! Be nice to get one of those to EDC along with a knife that had a nice thin blade with a full flat grind.

Camillus says the Campanion is 5.25" and the example I have is 5.25". If that 1/4" does not matter, it is the prototype of the sharpened prybar.

The reason for the 5" requirement is because in Texas the law allows for a 5.5" blade, however, a judge recently set new precident by ruling that you must measure all the way back to the guard/handle rather than just measuring the edge (as has always been the situation in the past). So with that in mind the 5.25" would probably be okay while still very close.

I have a CRK Shadow III and it's pretty thick but Im still afraid (maybe I shouldnt be) to use it for serious prying as it's only about .177" thick. I took a look at the Skymarshall and its a beefy .25". I wonder what it weighs.

Hi All-

Perhaps the solution here is to go with a thinner knife more dedicated to slicing and light prying (like a 3/16" Busse Satin Jack) COUPLED WITH a much heavier tool (like a Razel) for genuine breaching/entry work and smashing padlocks?

If the combined weight/space of these two tools is too much to pack, forget I mentioned it!

I've browsed the net for it's weight myself, no luck. I have handled one. Came close to bringing it home. (still may) I can tell you by feel there aint no doubt that you're holding a serious chunka blade. It's weigh wast about the same as my CRK Shadow IV, but felt even heavier since it was a bit smaller. The Pancake type sheath I think could help distribute the weight a little more nicely. The handle was about as small as I would want. ( I got pretty thick forepaws) It seems like one of the most easy blades of its type to live with on a day to day basis, as long as you're not looking to attach it to web gear, duty belts or anything like that.

Oddly enough it's one of the few knives my wife ASKED me to buy. Said it "fit me" (like a freakin' Sunday suit?!) also said it made her feel safer. (as opposed to the Shadow I was EDCing at the time) For some reason I was in a disgustingly mature, rational and cheap mood and passed up my window of opportunity.

Not to be a smartass or anything, but why not buy a knife with excellent edge geometry and steel that cuts like sarcasm, and an actual prybar with hooks, claws, and mass that will perform your demolition requirements much more effectively than a knife?

ESEE 4 should solve all your problems
FALLKNIVEN f1
BECKER BK2 (5.25) inches tho
BARK RIVER BRAVO 1

there are about a million options.. what are you actually planning on using the knife for?
and how much are you trying to spend?

ESEE 5 (best choice for a beater)
Entrek Bravo, Jag or Javelina
Fehrman Peacemaker
SYKW Dumpster Mutt CG
and as a special treat...Scrapyard just came out with a stout sliver of INFI for less than 200 bones called the War Dog. Available now. I got mine, get yours.

The thickest knives i think i've seen around here are probably Jeremy Horton's knives. I know i've seen 1/2" thick blades over on his forum site. I'm sure he'll make you one as thick as you want. Although i'm not sure of the cost. My thick bladed knives tend to be Busse's. Good luck on your hunt for a fat one. :D:thumbup:

Check out the TOPS Pryknife, it's 1/4" thick, 5160, or the Mini Pryknife, that is 3/8" thick, 5160. You could tear down a brick s**thouse with either one of them. The mini is on sale right now, for $129. The mini's were originally designed for a police swat outfit, for personal carry. I've got one on order right now.

Check out the the EOD Robotics Breacher Bar from Countycom. That coupled with a a thinner knife or a folder would be great. There are some pretty cool customized breacher bars too.

edit: lol I didn't notice that the op is from 2004....
