Way back in 1998 or '99,, I committed to buy a Randall #16-1 for a young man destined to enter the Marine Corps upon graduating from Texas A&M in 2002. I own this vintage knife that I bought 12 years ago.
Can you identify the steel used in this knife? It has a big blade. Is there a knife that can closely resemble this one with good steel?

Forget Busse. Can't get a > 9" Busse blade for $300.
you can get close with Busse SR77 and SR101 though.
I picked this one up for just over $300 a while back and just got another one slightly modded for about the same. And with SR77 it laughs at hard work

Lest we forget what thru hardened SR77 can do, almost 150 degrees without breaking. lol.
