Looking for a big knife

This is one of my favorites blades, even though the handle isn't comfortable, and a guy Here sold me a crooked blade.

Other than that.......WOW.
Always wanted an American maker to re release these.....
Maybe I will Have to make one??? 😝

So, I have a few of those. One user which has done well. China made a copy of these. It wasn't nearly as nice and the steel was softer as expected, but they were tough. I have one somewhere, will take a pic next to the Crowell barker for comparison. Kinda like the MT151 which is a copy of the trailmaster.

Here is that Elk Ridge branded chinese knife next to the crowel barker. It is very durable.

That's a good looking knife. I flipping hate these huge choils on knives right now

Thank you..... My design philosophy is less is More.....

I'm sure it's just competition that everyone tries to outdo everyone else, Marketing idk? Trying to make themselves look different.
Useless stuff.
I think (personally) most of it is garish and Cheesy/gaudy. IMO

almost none of my designs have
_exposed pommels
_Thumb ramps
_gimping
_sharpening choils
_finger choils
_clips/Swedges
_gimmicks

* edit.... Heck I REALLY struggle with a lanyard hole..... hahah (seriously)

Plain & boring appeals to me..... That is classy, timeless, and Sexy!

I don't mind a completely "plain" knife. If it gets the job done, that's the biggest requirement.

I also don't mind aesthetics as long as they don't interfere with function. I don't think any of it is a necessity though. I mean, look at a viking seax. That pretty well sums up "necessity". I'm definitely glad to have other options though.

My problem with big choils is it extends the blade way out and doesn't, in my opinion, provide a valid function. I also think it looks awful, which is just my subjective, irrelevant opinion.

Bravo to you! Way to exercise restraint and make a functional tool. There's not a lot of that out there these days.

Confession: I do love me some clips/swedges.

Sorry to the OP. We hi-jacked the thread.

BACK ON TOPIC: Is the reason you want wood scales purely for cosmetic purposes? Just for looks?
If you change your requirement for wood scales to removable scales, you'll have a few more choices. Also, since the scales are removable, you could potentially find/make wood scales or have someone make them for you.
