*** - Looking for a few good designs - *** And a contest!

So who's winning? i have more than 110 pages sent to mike how about you?

So when are we going to see the Winners? And how do you decide Who's design is "first"

I believe that i was one of the first people to reply to this thread :) :)

BTW i am missing a few auto-responses

Mike,
I sent in two more Fantasy designs, not really based on the conventional fixed blade idea, more like Fantasy Fighters. I have sheaths drawn up if you decide to use them. This contest has really pushed me to draw things I wouldn't have normally done. I bet all the stuff you're getting is really top notch. Are you going to make it all available one day, so we can see what each other has submitted?

John Sage:D

I think you've got it LK. I ran out of pages to send a while ago. I don't know how many pages, but there were sixty designs.

mike when are you going to be in i wanted to ask you a question about materials concerning fantasy knives

There is a free CAD design program available that may be good for sharing the designs being submited.

I have not used this program personally. I do quotations for a tool and die company. Some of my customers send me drawings created with this program and they look pretty good. Check it out and you may be surprised.

This also works well with e-mail because the files are not huge.
Note: The recipient must download the program or free viewer.

Good luck with the designs.

What Version of solid works is free, i know someone that still has some licenses of the educational version that he got because of the FIRST robotics program, i could probably get my hands on that.

Is this the same version?

thanks

BTW Mike you have Mail to your Mike@Wow address.

Is eDrawings an actual CAD program? I downloaded and installed it, but I can't figure out how it works yet. None of the buttons work.

One more fixed blade and another folder sent in. Thanks again for you time.

They look nice John!

Between you, Brian and Ferret I will be very busy.

Keep 'em coming. Remember we prelaunch at Blade Show and I was just called and told I will have 2 prototypes of Rob's knife. I was hoping for more but you gotta start with something!

Anyway we officialy launch in full scale at the Shot Show in 1st quarter of 2003. Stay Tuned!

I first saw this post 2 months ago and have been watching since. Soon after I saw a response that said that a good update would follow within 2 weeks to say who the winners were. Is this a "contest"?

I have to tell ya. I am very disapointed. People keep asking over and over again, have you received my sketches? No response.

Supposedly, new knifes are gonna be premiewed at the Blade Show that we all know is coming up fast and others later (maybe at the Shot Show).

I also happen to know that BIG NAMES in the world of knifes responded and have had no reply.

I for one am very disappointed that the communication is lacking.

Mike, I am just a lowely forumite, but in my humble opinion, I think all of your respondants deserve more information. If you are trying to open a new door for yourself and creative others to expand into the world of knife manufacturing, YOU HAVE TO COMMUNICIATE. I am no slouch. I know from whench I talk.

you should note that as an observer you are not privy to any private comunication between Mike and Any of the people that have submitted designs.

There is an auto response given to every email sent to the dragon forge email account, at the bottom of these auto responses mike has inclueded his office phone number.

I suppose if any of these big names have any questions they should give mike a call.

I am not speaking on behalf of mike turber, just as someone that has sent a few drawings.

Broomhilda,

Please show me where I said I would announce winners at any specific time. I have been communicating with those who have ACTUALLY sent in drawing via email. I will not use this forum as some open means of private communications. I respond in here when I get the chance and to give an update but this is not the media to use for day to day updates. Making knives takes a while and in most cases it takes about 6 months if you have a prototype and 9 or so with just drawings. Those who have sent drawings should have received an automated email as Lizardking has said.

Which BIG NAMES are you speaking of?

Anyway those who are sending in drawing are getting responces. I have several meetings over the next 3 months and we will be deciding on which knives to make in that time.

Stay Tuned!

Mike,
I sent you an all Damascus gents folder drawing. I am going to have 10 of these produced by Owen Wood around January of 2003. A custom handmade version would certainly help sales of any kind of production knife. Gents folders seem to be growing in popularity. Thanks for your time. BTW, I have received an auto response to every drawing I sent you and all my questions have been answered in a timely, professional manner. I know a big name maker who sent you a design and he got his response as well. No system is perfect, and it's entirely possible that some emails may have gone by without a response, but I have to say that overall your system is working quite nicely. This is getting quite exciting for me as I'm sure it is for all of us who have submitted designs, a little anxiety is to be expected. So far the experience has taught me a lot and for that I am grateful.

Cant wait to see the Proto's at Blade Mike! Also, I am behind on the other design we talked about but I will try to have a proto for you at Blade. See you there!

BTW, Broomhilda aint talking about me, I dont consider myself a "big name" anyway.

:p

Hello everyone

I am sorry if I upset anyone. That was not my intention. I was just referring back to a post on April 4th that stated, and I am sorry to have to paraphrase, decisions would be made in maybe 2 weeks. Or maybe it was more information in 2 weeks. I wish I could have the message up at the same time I write this note to have it totally straight. I wish I was better at the computer, or had a good memory. Just go back in this thread to April 4th.

I think we are all so eager to know what is what. I know I am. This is such a wonderful endeaver that Mike has taken on. I am sure that there is a tremendous amount of work that goes into something like this. I couldn't imagine it myself.

What ever happens, happens. Both the Blade Show and the Shot Show are coming up before we know it. It sounds like hundreds of ideas have been submitted. I also think that this is the only time I am aware of, that any individual was given the opportunity to get his dream made into reality. For this, I thank Mike. That is beyond cool. I think that all of those who submitted ideas are aware of this once in a life time opportunity. If I have offended anyone along the way, I apologize.

Broomhilda

NP Broomhilda,

Here is what was said,
My Email program went FUBAR and I am trying to fix it. I got all your designs but the autoresponder is not working right.

We will be announcing who's designs are in very soon, maybe in a couple of weeks.

Those who don't make the first cut may make later cuts so do not get discouraged and keep 'em coming.

Like Ed used to say, "You can't win if you don't enter".

As you can see I was going to announce "who's designs are in" not who won. Just who is in the mix and I think I was clear on who we now have on board.

I will annouce the winner as soon as I make that decision. I was hoping to have one before the Blade Show but we are delayed. Rest assured we will keep all up to date.

Stay Tuned as this has never been done before and I have to work out the kinks.

Rob,

You proto's look nice from what I am told. I don't think we have the tooling done on the sheath yet so I may need help in that arena. The Ball Bearing situation is now handled and from what I am told via email it works very well. We will see!

Intoccia= 8 letters
Simonich= 8 letters

in comparison

Ralph= 5 letters
Emerson = 7 letters
Onion= 5 letters

They must have been talking about us!

BTW- rob you had two deals Camillus and REKAT (they still alive?) I think that would qualify you as a big name.

Mike Be sure you have nice Photos of your both at the Blade show for us that are not making the pilgrimage!
