Looking for a Flashlight. Any Recommendations?

HDS Systems Ra Clicky 170 Tactical and Surefire Minimus headlamp. Bases covered. Forever.

+1 Couldn't agree more. Though I'd buy the full-blown SureFire Saint instead b/c it can always be converted quickly into a Minimus. This is usually the setup I bring into the backcountry: a headlamp and a high-end flashlight.

Powerful lights are great [I have a modified SureFire C2 which pumps out 225 lumens], but they're terrible for reading, general camp prep etc. The HDS Ra is great b/c it's super small, but sports the ability to customize the output levels. Not to mention it's highly regarded as one of, if not the toughest, light on the market.

I couldn't believe it when I saw that Surefire came out with the 2 models that are coming in at the price of their competitors lights WITH adjustable settings!!

*What I can't figure out now is how are Surefire going to continue to ask THAT much for all their other lights when they can obviously make the same, if not a much better light, for half the price?!?!?!

Its all about who you know in this world. I have a friend that is a rep for them. I have gotten enough to fill all my guns, light up an entire square block with one light, and plenty of others to fill the gaps. They are no doubt the leaders in light technology. They tend to be expensive for the average guy which is why I was suggesting pelican. The thing about getting free stuff is you can't get it if you start give away. Sorry:(

Ha! Here we are cherishing our Surefires and this guy has had so many (FOR FREE) that he's tired of them!

I would get the Saint as well. In addition to converting to the Mimumus, the Saint can run on AA's when required.

I have always been a surefire guy and I don't think you can go wrong with the suggestion here.

Check out Zebra headlamps very minimalist. They have right angle lamps you can remove from the head band and clip on web gear or use as a hand lamp.

Not much bigger than the AA it runs on and 200 lumens.

I have used dozens of different brands of headlamps. So far only the surefire headlamp has actually made it through more than one time in the field. Even when a product claims it is waterproof I have the unfortunate luck of proving them wrong!

+1 and its not that big of a price update... I love how it has a wheel to dial in the amount of light you need... Very Handy! I might have to purchase one of these.

I love my Zebra headlamp! It's really durable, runs on CR123's, and put's out some serious light if you need it to.

I upgraded from a fenix pd30 r4 to an eagletac p20c2 markII r5 and I havn't looked back!

The different light level settings are better, and the light is alot brighter (better beam spot and longer throw) the batteries last alot longer and it came with a diffuser and a bunch of other little goodies.

So my recommendation would be the Eagletac P20C2 which runs on cr123's but if you want to run it on AA's I think there's a similar model.

Plus it has a drop in LED module, so when they upgrade the bins to a different led you can just swap the module out.

I give it a ***** (five star) rating.

Oh, and the included nylon holster is the best i've ever seen.

And I think I paid around $60 for it around this time last year.

Plus You can choose what color of led you want, either neutral or cool white.

The list of positives never ends.

Go look up eagletac lights.

Being a flash-a-holic, I got one of the new Surefire G2X Pro's to test against my Fenix, Olight's and others. Half the price of previous Surefires, 200 lumen on high and battery saving 15 lumen on low. Great throw, while still having a a pleasant spill too.

And of course you get Surefire's quality and reliability.

I carry a Surefire E2DL, It is awesome... plenty bright for anything I would ever need. Surefire just came out with some new lights, the 6PX Pro or Tactical look like very nice lights and they are affordable! 80 bucks is the msrp, I would go with one of those if i was gonna get another one.

Battery Junction has the G2x pro for low $60's. And if you find a "coupon" you can get discount + free shipping ~; - )

I no longer recommend the Surefire G2X Pro for "tactical" use. I've since found that if you bump or subject the light to any g-force it changes modes by itself - from LOW to HIGH and back again. That is NOT what I expected from Surefire and will not be buying anymore SF lights.

The Fenix TK-12 light cost about the same, is much brighter, has more modes and can be dropped or thrown across the room with no "mode changes". They call it The Tank and I've just ordered another one. I'll be giving my G2X to a BIL that I don't like :D

Just ordered the Streamlight PT 2AA from Amazon on sale for $39.16 with free shipping and no tax! 120 Lumens high; high strobe 3,000 cd; 14 lumens low; low strobe at 250cd. Can't wait.

As a member of the Candlepower forum (for Flashaholics), that if you say that you have 'negative' experience with a Surefire flashlight your thread gets closed.

A bunch of Surefire Fan-Boys who don't want to hear you don't bow their light-god

fenix is nice.

Yep. I've got two 2-AA Fenix LED flashlights, the TK30 (8 AA's - like 700 lumens), the TK12 with R5 LED (with another on it's way). All of them work 100% of the time and don't switch modes if you bang it in your hand or run with it. ;)

Good to know. I've been wanting a Saint for a while now but I can't justify the expense... yet.
