Looking for a good knife for girlfriend

Ask her if she'd be interested in any one of these:

They are all tip down, and I don't carry them.

If she's interested, PM me and I'll send one over on my dime. Saves you some X-mas cash and she gets a knife, win-win...

WOW, epic gesture!!! you just earned a lifetime supply of my respect, not that its worth much. a living definition of a kind gentleman..

Blues bender. That is an awesome offer and I can't thank you enough for making it. I would really like to surprise her with something she doesn't see coming though as she likes that sort of thing.

I'll trade ya, but only if you post pics of her first :D

No problem! The element of surprise is often more appreciated than the gift itself. Let us know what you decide on:)

ZT 0450CF Would be my choice. I just picked a new one for $155 so close to your price. Plus it is very light and not to big.

I second this. I gave my wife one for Christmas 3 years ago. Made custom scales for it.

Lionsteel Opera

Or this one too:

Also tip down. All four are around 3".

Boker mini Kwaiken. Slim profile, the g-10 might be lighter than the titanium.
Or the urban Trapper

Mcusta small nami; just under 3", under 3oz., and a handle well under 4" (for her smaller hands).
Plus the stainless Damascus blade gives it a real nice elegant look to it.

Also a SAK classic for her keychain; from every color to sterling silver or gold ingot, or one of the multitude of limited edition models, find one that is perfectly suited for her...
The "love song" model is a good one for lovers, but it's getting harder and harder to find. (I know of a local retailer here in PA that still has them in Stock, but they're not a site sponsor dealer).

Keyshaw Leek or Scallion. I like the idea of some other gear if she keeps them in her bag or camping kit, small multi tool or SA, and a small flashlight.

“Agreeing”

Now that we got that out of the way lets see if I can disagree with everyone here.
Equally of course. :p :)

I was going to make a separate post but have also been watching this thread so I may as well just put my recent experience here :

The Chef seemed to need a knife the other day; may have even asked to borrow one of mine. I forget how it all went but I started thinking about getting her a small knife; probably single blade. I think the Spyderco Cricket would be perfect but she hates the frame lock. Doesn’t want to fold the blade while her finger is in the way. I got her to do it right but she still says no.

Back ground : She has a fairly large lock back with a four inch blade in her art studio.
She has a imitation Swiss army knife like a Tinker. Bought the fake before I met her or she wouldn’t have it by gosh.
She has an Opinel No7 that I gave to her fifteen years ago.

She carries none of these. The Opinel was in the same room and she didn’t use it.

I mentioned this and she said she was tired of a knife she had to tediously pick open with a nail nick.

I thought OK . . . how about a Cold Steel Super Edge. OP this is a two inch blade; might work for your GF.
She wouldn’t even hear of ANY kind of “sheath” knife. That’s a guys knife ! she says. I said if anything a sheath is feminine . . . it is a receptacle. She says yah but you got to “whip” the knife out of it. She says she is all for taking it out but not putting it back in. I think she was trying to tease the hell out of me at that point so . . . moving on . . .

She said “How about that little blue knife that you had sitting on the corner of your side table for a long time”.

I showed her my blue knives but none was it. I figured it was one of those optical brain things; colors opposite on the color wheel (in this case sort of opposite). You know . . . you think of a purple object but say yellow or like that.

Turns out it was a red knife. Well a combination of red knives. These two :

The bottom one in this photo; a Case Medium Stockman in Red Bone CV (she has good taste;)).

and this one ; the top one in this photo which is a Wenger Patriot

We are all supposed to now ignore the fact that these are nail nick / pick open knives.
OP see what you are up against here !?!?!?!?!

Well now . . . after handling the knives that she was thinking of the knife that she chose was one I showed her after ward . . . the white Case in the photo above. She said first off that the Case knives were just way easier to open than what she was used to in a nail nick knife.
(I pointed out that this was partly due to the fact that mine were oiled)
and she said she liked the white Case in particular because it was a touch larger than the red ones which were too small for her long fingers.

So there you go. Personally I would still like to find her a Spyderco slip joint / UK knife with a large spidie hole and that would be even easier to open. I think she is going to get over the nail nicks again.
I was looking at Spidies but other than the Roadie (which I think would get food in the hole out there on the tip like that) most of the Spydercos didn’t have much for opening holes in a slip joint.

? And finally a full size Griptillian for a little person like that ? ? ? ?
It is one of my all time favorites but . . .

I've been looking at maybe a mini grip for her. I've also been looking at the Kershaw lineup as I am a fan of theirs and they had a pretty large selection. I'm also thinking of trying to find something with blue scales since Tiffany blue is her favorite color. No idea what make s a blue Tiffany but maybe you guys can chime in on that one

Can't think of any true tiffany blues off hand, but the Spyderco Memory Centofante is close.

Probably a SAK classic model or two also you could find.

How about you show her some of your knives and see what she prefers. Rather than a 3" blade, size just might matter to her.

I would agree with Blues Bender.
Women, and their honest likes can be fickle ... and sometimes hard to understand (just accept if they find something they truly like).
Interestingly I lost my Leafstorm this way, and would never have thought that would be her selection. Trouble is (for me) it's a hard one to replace :-(

I give women SAKs, and most end up actually carrying and using them. The Victorinox Waiter is a good choice. And it's less than 20 bucks. Matters not what knife you get her if she won't actually carry it and use it. If you want to spend more, she ought to pick it out without you critiquing her choice(s), else you just risk spending on something she'll never even use.

Let us know which direction you go, what you did to help her choose or what you got her, just curious.

I'm thinking I will break out a few of mine this weekend and see what size and blade shape she goes for when working on things

Damn, Blues... I knew you were knowledgeable, but I didn't know you were that nice! Good for you!
(Got a Rockstead for me?) Just kidding!
