Now that we got that out of the way lets see if I can disagree with everyone here.
Equally of course.
I was going to make a separate post but have also been watching this thread so I may as well just put my recent experience here :
The Chef seemed to need a knife the other day; may have even asked to borrow one of mine. I forget how it all went but I started thinking about getting her a small knife; probably single blade. I think the Spyderco Cricket would be perfect but she hates the frame lock. Doesnt want to fold the blade while her finger is in the way. I got her to do it right but she still says no.
Back ground : She has a fairly large lock back with a four inch blade in her art studio.
She has a imitation Swiss army knife like a Tinker. Bought the fake before I met her or she wouldnt have it by gosh.
She has an Opinel No7 that I gave to her fifteen years ago.
She carries none of these. The Opinel was in the same room and she didnt use it.
I mentioned this and she said she was tired of a knife she had to tediously pick open with a nail nick.
I thought OK . . . how about a Cold Steel Super Edge. OP this is a two inch blade; might work for your GF.
She wouldnt even hear of ANY kind of sheath knife. Thats a guys knife ! she says. I said if anything a sheath is feminine . . . it is a receptacle. She says yah but you got to whip the knife out of it. She says she is all for taking it out but not putting it back in. I think she was trying to tease the hell out of me at that point so . . . moving on . . .
She said How about that little blue knife that you had sitting on the corner of your side table for a long time.
I showed her my blue knives but none was it. I figured it was one of those optical brain things; colors opposite on the color wheel (in this case sort of opposite). You know . . . you think of a purple object but say yellow or like that.
Turns out it was a red knife. Well a combination of red knives. These two :
The bottom one in this photo; a Case Medium Stockman in Red Bone CV (she has good taste

).
and this one ; the top one in this photo which is a Wenger Patriot
We are all supposed to now ignore the fact that these are nail nick / pick open knives.
OP see what you are up against here !?!?!?!?!
Well now . . . after handling the knives that she was thinking of the knife that she chose was one I showed her after ward . . . the white Case in the photo above. She said first off that the Case knives were just way easier to open than what she was used to in a nail nick knife.
(I pointed out that this was partly due to the fact that mine were oiled)
and she said she liked the white Case in particular because it was a touch larger than the red ones which were too small for her long fingers.
So there you go. Personally I would still like to find her a Spyderco slip joint / UK knife with a large spidie hole and that would be even easier to open. I think she is going to get over the nail nicks again.
I was looking at Spidies but other than the Roadie (which I think would get food in the hole out there on the tip like that) most of the Spydercos didnt have much for opening holes in a slip joint.
? And finally a full size Griptillian for a little person like that ? ? ? ?
It is one of my all time favorites but . . .
