looking for a good S30V folder...

+1 on the Spyderco Paramilitary, great knife, spyderco is coming out with the paramilitary 2 this year, which improves on the PM even more, If you don't mind waiting, I'd go with that one. Also take a look at the Benchmade Ritter Griptilian in S30V.

I like Buck,Bos heat treated S30V.You can check them out at the Buck Custom Shop.I like the fact that I can pick my own handle material too.

Guys!

I'm asking for a friendly advice:

Just would like to have a folder, not custom, made of S30V.

There are so many on market...

What would you recommend from your own experience...

Price range $50 - $200

Thank you in advance...

Greetings Kancler: The Benchmade Osborne 940 has a relatively long and thin blade. This is, IMHO, one of it's best attributes. The ratio of blade length to the overall knife dimensions allows an almost 3.5" blade to efficiently fit in a 4.5" frame. The anodized aluminum scales are light, marginally grippy and not at all flimsy for an every day carry knife. Weight is less than 3 oz. The modified reverse tanto S30V blade takes and holds a 30 degree overall edge suitable to my purposes. I liked the 940 so much I bought a spare. The Axis lock is ambidextrous, smooth, fast and positive in operation. It is also entirely too much fun to play with. Bottom line, at about $170.oo the knife is thin, light, strong, has a good blade length for an EDC and does not shout "I Have A Knife in My Pocket." It is easy to carry and can be quickly used and quickly put away. OldDude1

sage 1, sage 2, military, paramilitary...

These are the best in CPM-S30V.
-Super sharp right out of the box
-Very comfy in the hand
-Lightweight
-Great Warranty

Make sure you post up some pics when you have a chance of whatever you decide to buy.

I have several Benchmades and am happy with them.
A 745 is what is in my pocket right now.... a Mini Dejavoo, blade a bit over 3".

I agree that the Spyderco Military or the BM 740 Deja Vu would both be great choices.

Either the Sage 1 or 2 would be a great choice, and should be easy to resell if you decide you don't like it.

For everyday use. Blade around 3" -3.5".

Reliable and practical.

I'll throw my vote in as a lone wolf cheyenne, FRN, black/green micarta, or cocobolo...Can also get in a black Tini coated blade.

The knife is super sharp, thick blade but not heavy, very smooth, and a cool grind. I find the ergos to be nice. Can be had 90s to 110 depending on which one. Blade is 3.2".

Another option I would consider is the ritter griptilian, it is a bit bulkier though for a slightly longer blade.

take a look at the Loan Wolf Blackfoot for around $80- $100 I think it is one of the best values out there

Hey there, I'm relatively new to knives but here I go with opinions already:

1. there are plenty of good steels out there besides s30v so really consider whether you need this restriction or not, and no matter the steel make sure you're getting a quality heat treat.

2. The Buck vantage pro is an exceptional value, you can't go wrong with one: lightweight, g10 handles, great blade shape, super sharp out of the box, easy to open, very good fit and feel, smooth, excellent carry clip, BOS heat treated s30v, $50 shipped. Looks great. Comes in large or small. Don't worry about the alignment issue... it's EASY to fix yourself with a t-6 torque wrench as I pointed out in another post. Sorry this reads like a damned advertisement but I just bought a bunch of knives and this one really stood out.

Besides the Buck Custom Shop 110 in S30V others mentioned, which you could build for $84++ depending on handle scales, the 347 Vantage Pro, now running $65-$75, and the canned 172 Mayo TNT, a Ti framelock which runs $175-$225 where you can find one.

The Benchmade 610 Rukus and 615 mini-Rukus are available - worth the hunt - <$200. Actually, the auto 615, the 6150, is also <$200. All S30V.

Then there are the BM 630 Skirmish and 635 mini-Skirmish - canned two years ago but still around for nearly $200. Ti framelocks - beautiful S30V.

The LH three are S30V: Buck 172 Mayo TNT, BM 635BK mini-Skirmish, and BM 630 Skirmish. All Ti framelocks, no longer in production, and probably would take most of that $200. Great knives all. At the lower end of the spectrum, $-wise, is the Spyderco Native in S30V - once <$40 at WallyWorld!

Ritter Grip or Paramilitary 2 when it comes out. Both mentioned already, both great knives in the OP's price range.

I'll second this one as well. All of the suggestions thus far are very sound knives that will provide great service. On the low price side are the vantage pro and lonewolf, For a bit more the spydercos come into play and the the ever popular benchmade Osborne. In my opinion the vantage and lonewolf are every bit as good as the others mentioned. The vantage pro that I have has been truly abused. I have treated it like crap. I have no problem whipping it out and digging with it or cutting through carpet or drywall, or even light prying. I would never do that with my spydies, bm, klotzli's or any of my other high end knives. This isn't because they won't take it but rather they were expensive and I don't want to risk chipping a blade or other damage. I don't worry about this with the vantage pro. At a price point of sub $60 it's a non issue.
