Looking for a knife to carry while running

Its not a super heavy-duty knife but I run and bought a SOG Flash I for the same reasons. Its super light and the pocket clip sets the knife down in the pocket so nicely it doesn’t flip around and I cant even fell it.

I used to have one of those and couldn't get used to the way it carried. Too low for me.

It was a great knife otherwise though for an AO, which I normally don't like. From what I remember it was VERY light.

I am a big guy, and don't generally run or jog cause of bad knees and generall fatness ;), but I do carry a Native IWB when walking. I would put a lanyard, or chain, on the Delica and carry it around your neck. If you are worried about it opening under your shirt, I would be more worried about it opening under IWB carry. Sweat, same deal. If sweat is a big deal, go for a Salt. Also, short enough chain, maybe a break away chain as opposed to a lanyard.

I have a bunch of chains hanging around the house. I'll try it once around my neck and see what happens. Never thought of it. Thanks for the idea.

I've been carrying my Delica clipped in my waste band and it's fine when I'm just jogging but the minute I bend over it jabs me in the stomach or leg. I tried it a few times clipped on the wasteband in the middle of my back, but the knife is not very accessible and when I do sit ups it gets in the way.

What do you guys carry when working out?
I carry a Spyderco Calypso Jr. ltwt. clipped in the waistband just behind my hipbone. Rarely uncomfortable or in the way.
Sometimes use a small fanny pack for knife, wallet, gym card, and MP3 player.

While any small knife can be adapted to running, it would be nice if some mfg. would actually do a little research into what runners might like and design a specialized knife.

I think there are several al mars that fit the bill quite well. the al mar falcon ultralight is just >3 inches and weighs 1.3 oz, not to mention its a quality knife.

mcmanis, thanks for the reply, I will look into that one, 1.3 oz is impressive for a 3" blade knife.

I do some light running and intense biking with the type of shorts that you talk about. I have a Kershaw leek, (right now a rainbow one :D) clipped "appendix carry" or approx one'o'clock, to one'thirty on my shorts. It's the little space between your belly and the starting part of your hip. I carry it tip-up, safety on, and I don't even feel it

It has no rough edges on it because it is highly polished. A BM 530/Boker subcom might work as well, but when you're running I'm afraid it might come open...

Hope this helps!
