Hey all, I want to try a new knife company. So far, I own:
Spyderco Techno
Spyderco Southard
Spyderco Delica 4
Spyderco Manix 2
Spyderco paramilitary 2
Spyderco Native 5
Ontario Rat 1
Kershaw Blur
Buck 110

Other knives I used to own and didn't like:
Spyderco Resilience
Kershaw cryo 2
Zero Tolerance 0350
Kershaw Leek
Cold steel recon 1

Everyone seeks to love benchmade, but when I was at a sports authority, I held the mini grip and I really disliked the plastic handles. I know they have a g10 version but it's about twice the price.

I'm asking if there's a folder anyone can recommend, for general EDC use, cutting various cordage, slicing through fabrics, breaking down cardboard, cutting plastic straps, shrink wrap, just general EDC. Nothing I'd consider heavy use.

Although I'm not going to abuse a knife you suggest, does not mean I want some smith and Wesson piece of crap. There's pride in ownership when you have a quality knife.

My dislikes:
Most lockbacks
Two handed openers (traditional knives)

Other than that I'm pretty open to anything. But would only consider: benchmade, zt, or similar.

My budget is 50-200$

Ergonomics are most important

No tanto blades or clip points. I prefer ffg but it's not necessary. Thanks for all your input

If autos are legal where you are get a Protech.

If not you also need an Emerson in that collection!

Two knifeworks exclusive benchmades for your consideration. 940-1501 and 710-1401. The former is slim, light, with excellent steel and black/blue g10 scale. The latter is long, slim, also with excellent steel and black/blue g10 scale.

Bokers are excellent knives if you stick to the higher end Plus line and the regular made in Germany models, some of the best i've ever owned. I would recommend looking at Viper knives, especially the Odino or Kyomi. Awesome knives and fantastic F&F.

Give BM another shot...Spyderco has plastic scales and so does BM....

I am not gonna make a list, but BM has at least 10 knives that are exceptional and I would suggest anyone should own.

One of my favorites after a pocket clip mod is the kershaw jyd2 composite blade. Outstanding knife with a super comfy handle for large hands. Perfect centering, effortless flipping, the d2 holds a good edge. probably one of the best for the $ spent I own.

ZT 0770 - I liked the CF version as it was lighter. It is fairly slim in the pocket and has a good sized blade for the knife.

I like frn. But benchmades plastic handles feel like frcp which I dislike

I would suggest Benchmade, but honestly, their prices today are a bit hard for me to accept.

Protech TR-4 might be better ergos seen em for <$200

tank and mule of a knife.

Both the 3 and the 4 have manual opening versions, worth a look then they have the TR-5 which is an AO / downsized version of the 4

I will recommend a Benchmade HK 14715 or 14716 depending on which size appeals to you the most.

The D2 is very well done, the G10 handles are ergonomically designed and executed.

And you owe it to yourself to try an Axis Lock.

These knives offer some of the finest value out there, in my opinion.

Get yourself two Ganzo knives for your $50 and have enough for lunch left over !

I'm mildly curious about what you didn't like regarding the cold steel recon ?
