Looking for a new knife, want to try something besides Spyderco

i agree with you on the cheap looking scales on the grip but if you can get past that its one hell of a knife. the mini grip is a bit small for my hands but he full sized one fit my mitt like no other

I'll also recommend a ProTech TR-3, either an auto if legal, or the manual version. Also, if ergos really matter to you, you really should try an Emerson. I'd suggest a CQC15 (or mini) or a Commander (or mini). For a solid G10 handled Benchmade, I'd recommend the Rift (950).

Get yourself two Ganzo knives for your $50 and have enough for lunch left over !

I'm mildly curious about what you didn't like regarding the cold steel recon ?
I felt the recon was over built, too many things I had to modify. The g10 was too aggressive for me. The pocket clip was too tight, the black coating was terrible and I stripped it off, it took up too much pocket real estate, the only way to open it one handed was to really whip it open which intimidated people, and in the end those were too many flaws that I didn't want to deal with. I did like the ergos very much though. But that's about it

If you are going to give a proper Benchmade a try: 940, 940-2, 710, 908 are worth consideration. All excellent folders in your price range, made in USA. Doubt you would be bummed.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your reply ! I guess Cold Steel Triad lock folders are just not for you .

How about the new mini-recon 1? It has less aggressive g10 and better steel/coating than the recon 1 you had before.

Other than that I'd think a g10 griptilian/mini-grip would be nice.

If you love your Manix2 ergos, ZT 0562!

If you like something smaller, the Kizer Gemini is kinda the perfect size clipless EDC for me. I carry a Spyderco almost everyday... the struggle is real :D

HK 14715 Axis folder, g10, d2 blade steel. Benchmade axis lock, warranty, and quality for less than $100. Hard deal to beat.

Check out ZT 0450 and ZT 0808. I've had both. The 0450 is rather short in the grip for my large hand, but other than that, it was a great knife. I still have the 0808 which is a longer closed length and is a very nice folder.
I've had lots of BM knives; I like some of them like the 710 variants.

Try an Emerson, never come back after.
Less posh but efficient, these Proelia knives have pretty good ergos, but they are quite large.
