Looking for a nice oudoorsy knife

I have four of them, two regular 110/112's autos and two Elite 110/112's.

All function well, no blade play and good lockup. The 112's have a little quicker action, but I wouldn't consider any of them lazy.

My favorites are the G10 Elites, I like the G10 scales and brushed nickel bolsters.
The only negative is that the knives need to be sent to Buck if the springs break, they're not repairable by the consumer.
But I've not had any problems with my four.
Thanks for that assessment: they're back on my radar!
My favorite auto currently is my Paradigm 591.
...and it even has S35 steel between the handles.

Lol …it was an Izula II
The zookeepers were furious
They were only mad because they said it was "sleeping", but you and I both know it was only laying down waiting to ambush.
My mistake on the Izula II... it's the extra half inch of handle that really gives you the bear slaying power.

You might want to check out the Mini Rukus. It checks all your boxes. You can even find options in steel and scales-- even multiple limited editions -- although most are S30V and G10/Micarta. It's a hall-of-fame knife that has a strong following, even long after being discontinued.

Fallkniven PXL, as mentioned earlier is an extremely well made an attractive knife. It's rugged enough for outdoor use as well.

That Scandi is nice, Tops actually has a lot of nice stuff, haven't looked at them before.

And they even have really good steel in them... HELP!!)

Hey Guys,

Looking to buy a nice outdoorsy folding knife, primarily for camping and hiking. I bought a BM Mini Crooked River, got a poor QC example and frankly for the price I paid I'm a little disappointed with it overall so it's going back.

I figured I can either stare at knife videos and look through endless pages of knives till my eyes bleed or I can ask you fine folks for some suggestions.

Looking for something modern but with a touch of that classic feel and with nice styling (not just a basic FRN scale knife). Phosphor bronze washers preferred but not a deal breaker. Blade no larger than 3.5" in a good steel. Not a huge back flipper fan but if the knife is nice enough, also no autos or assisted knives.

Thanks in advance!

Buck 112 Ranger Pro. Outdoorsy as you can get, black G-10 scales and CPM S30V blade for the modern, classic Buck styling with nickel silver bolsters. And, the Buck 112 feels better in the hand than any other folding knife in the history of all folding knives.

Mora has a couple of very good fixed blades in full tang and 3/4 tang models. If you break it you aren't out a bunch, just shrug and replace it.

I've seen reports where some testers were "less than enthusiastic", about the 110 Auto's action.
Can you comment on that?
(I may still get a 112 Auto just for the upgraded blade steel...)

They don't fire like a ProTech, but what does? In my opinion, the opening of the Buck autos is just right. When an auto opens so hard that it feels like you're losing your grip, it's too much.

My Pro-Tech fires like a hand grenade going off... and I DO have to be careful about that...
My Buck 591 and Gerber Impel fire almost as hard; but they are more manageable.

Back to "Outdoorsy knives"...
How about a Schrade Stockman? If there ever was a classic design: this is it. They sharpen easily, and come in a couple of different sizes...

General Outdoors - The criteria for me is a reliable, proven user that is reasonably tough, and is at a price point where I won’t be too annoyed if I drop it in a lake or river. A Buck 112 of the slim variety fits this criteria perfectly for me. Most times, so do an Opinel No. 8., SAK, or a Case stockman (if you don’t want a solid lock blade).

The exception to this rule is task specific knives. Exclusively rafting or kayaking - non-pointy, serrated blade as the purpose is for cutting rope/straps and to avoid punctures. In salt water - consider a Spyderco Salt or equivalent. Salt water very quickly does bad things to folding knives if you are not going to be judicious about rinsing them after use.
