Recommendation? looking for a small high quality fixed blade edc type knife

AG Russell may have passed; but his site continues to offer a good selection of Dozier knives. The modified personal is generally in stock, and it's only a few months wait if you catch them when it isn't.
That’s where I’d be purchasing a Dozier if I decide on that being the one. I anticipate that I’ll end up spending a lot of money on future purchases there.

For well under $500 you can get a knife that would really become an heirloom. Go custom! This little EDC is a Bob Loveless design, made by T. Steingass (a member of this forum), and cost less than your budget. I't a heck of a lot better knife than what you put forth in your original post.

I really like the pattern, it's almost un-noticeable in public, and I spent a couple more dollars and had Russ Zima (a Colorado engraver) personalize it for me. It's the only one around and whoever gets it after I'm gone is going to really have something nice. No store brand is going to give you that.

Wow, that’s beautiful. What is the build time for that? What kind of steel was used?

Okay everyone, I think I opened up a can of worms with this search. I’m probably going to pick something up soon and put in an order for something custom for the future. I had never considered commissioning a custom build, but the stuff I’m seeing is blowing my mind. I really with I had started this search much sooner. Thanks again everyone for all of the suggestions. I really appreciate it. This is a great community.

I'm with eisman eisman . When you say "heirloom" I keep thinking of something like his Steinglass or:

This one is Damasteel so scratches your damascus itch and your corrosion concerns:

TK builds a very fine knife btw, I've built many a sheath for his knives:

This order was for a fellow BF member:

Yeah it can and does everyday. Completely custom does take time, can be so worth the wait.

Since making this post, my eyes have been opened to a dozen or so custom knife makers. I’m planning on inquiring about having a Steingass custom made using Christmas as an excuse. I have my eye on a particular model, specific steel and handle materials, all that stuff. Meanwhile, I’m going to get something that can be delivered within the month.

Probably oughta hurry on that. Christmas is a coming. I probably couldn't get ya a full custom done by then. Call him today.

I emailed Steingass and the lead time is 4 months. So I don’t anticipate anything arriving until the beginning of next year or so. I wish I had this information earlier, but it is what it is. I’m just glad I know about my options now.

So ... get the Lionsteel M1 I suggested and put that down as your b day gift. You could have that in a few days and will serve you well.

Take the remaining balance of your b-day budget (the M1 is only $147) and order a custom from someone. That would be your X-Mas gift for this year using the X-mas + remaining b-day budget.

If you need any further help in spending your money, please don't hesitate to ask. We like helping people spend money. :D

I like the way you think. The birthday knife is gonna be on my wife’s tab. The custom knife I’m definitely getting is coming out of my pocket.

That Gordo you had up for a day was amazing. If I wasn’t so indecisive, it would have been mine.

That Chechen burl one? Yeah one of my collectors picked that up. #49 for his personal collection although he's bought more, he's given several away. Ordered four more too. He called wanting this one:

But he was too late, it was gone. So I'm making him one like it and three others.

That’s the one. Chechen burl paired with cocobolo. Your work is amazing. This search for an edc knife is turning into something else. I’m going to have to allocate some spending money to add at least a couple of you’re knives to my collection. It’s an inevitability. Can I be on a mailing list or be notified whenever you add something new to the store?

Thanks for the kind words! Don't really have a mailing list. I mean our website is set up for one but I hate getting those things, so, I don't send those things. Best bet is to give us a call. We kinda go old school we put your name and number on a sticky and stick it to the computer monitor. Then when we do a new batch I call everyone that has a sticky on the puter. But even that isn't fast enough sometimes. Got guys that check the site multiple times a day every day. Record is 12 sold in thirty minutes. There he is. On his way to the east coast right now:

I dont know if they are still avaliable, but I really like my Bark River City Knife. Been carrying it everyday in my front pocket for 6 or 7 years. May or may not be what you are looking for. Well under $500, so you could get 2....
Elmax version up for preorder on ksf and dlt.

Lucky guy. I’ll be making a stop to your store daily for new releases. I need one of your knives in my collection. I really should have bought that Gordo.
