looking for an extremely thin folding knife.

Another vote for the BM530 or Spyderco Chapparal. There are also lots of SS framelocks that are cheap and thin (kershaw, buck, gerber, etc).

One other factor to consider - besides just being thin. The shape of the handle (curved vs angular) makes a big different when reaching past your knife. A knife like the skyline (tip up) has a very natural curve that deflects the hand into the pocket (if that is what you want). The Benchmade 707 does as well. Part of the reason I love these two knives - there are no sharp edges to rub up against. An extreme of this is the onslaught - but likely not what he is looking for. With my buck vantage, I was always poking myself when reaching into my right front pocket.

Yeah the BM530 might just be the right knife for your friend. I had one and got rid of it because it was too thin for my liking.

I haven't handled anything thinner than the Al Mar Ultralights. The Kershaw Leek is pretty thin, too.

I'm the 5th or 6th vote for a Benchmade 530.
I just got mine from Knifeworks (great international postage)
Disappointingly, it came blunt, but I'll fix it on my Edge Pro Apex

Also, the standard steel is 154CM but there was an REI special edition with S30V & Dark Blue handles and Knifeworks is currently selling them out CHEAP for $75

Forgot to add, here is a great YouTUbe video that helped me decide to get the 530

Kershaw Skyline is a great choice, I prefer the damascus version.

The Fällkniven TK3 or U2 are some other options. I currently own a TK3; it's very light and thin. The U2 is a little bit smaller.

Another great Benchmade, albeit a bit more dear in cost than the 530, is the 480-1 Shoki. It's a bit upscale - M390 blade (Same .090" thickness.), Ti liners, CF scales, and 'Nak-Loc', a pb operated liner-lock. It comes with a neat leather sheath - with a removeable pocket clip. Clipless, the sheath with the knife blends well with the usual other pocketed goodies.

I would highly suggest a Benchmade 530. Super thin with a beautiful 3" blade and the arc lock allows for 1 handed opening and closings...
Plus 1
However Benchmade uses the axis lock which is stronger unless you use Sog's high end production stuff that is $200 or more, and even then they are the same strength. Sog uses the arc lock on their high end(it is a strong lock) and on their other less expensive knives they use the arc actuation lock which is much weaker than both. Just FYI :)

SAK OH sentinel. Single locking blade that is not scary (it's a SAK!)

Or Victorinox Solo, non locking with a much more grippier handle.
