I have recently decided to trade away my strider in favor of something a little more slicey. I would like some opinions in what you guys think of slicer folders that can still take some abuse. Not crazy abuse but sturdy.

Been looking at the zt 0452cf since it looks a little thinner is profile but still has a solid build. Anyone know of something else along those lines?

Good slicer, holds a nice edge, takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Spyderco Military. For real.

Also, tip down, so slip it into a back pocket, so slim you could forget you got it.

The ZT 0562 (CF or G10) is a pretty solid choice. It's definitely a favorite around BHQ.

I agree the spyderco military is a great recommendation. Also I would seriously look at a CS Talwar. It cuts like a laser and is great bang for your buck. You could even find an Aus8 version at ridiculous discount if you truly want to beat on it.

I think most folders can be made to be good slicers, if you can give it new bevel.

I had a hogue, it had a thick blade, so I took off a lot of the shoulder and it sliced well after that. Since it was convex, it had some strength as well.

I have actually had a zt 560 and a spiderco military. Both good knives. Actually liked the 0560 better but both just lacked a certain something for me. Think the military just didn't feel robust enough with the liner lock (never been a fan of them). The 560 was nice but had a sticky lock which was annoying at times

Don't laugh.

But I'll bet you can't break an Opinel #9 doing normally hard stuff with a knife.

Yeah. Opinel. Either the regular numbered ones or the effilé models. Sharpest knives I own. And they don't break. Fixed blade? Find a Becker BK-15.

My go-to for tough slicing is a Sebenza 25. It isn't the thinnest blade, but it works great for my thinnest use chore (apple cutting). The lock-up is solid and I have total confidence that I can't do anything to it that I wouldn't do to any one of my knives.

I find I use it more than my less expensive production blades because I know I can break it down and clean it thoroughly to my satisfaction, and that makes it invaluable to me.

I like my ritter grip, but I never know if I got all the wood/sap/dirt out of the handles quite right. Ritter-grip would be my second choice though (after the Umnumzaan and all the CRK 21 varieties :D)

Manix 2 XL. Blade is both thinner and broader than the Mili giving it a slicier blade overall. Thin out the edge a bit and it gets positively wicked. It's also solidly built with a nice, strong lock.

If that doesn't trip your trigger take a look at the Cold Steel Hold Out 2. Many of the same virtues listed above, but lighter weight and with an even stronger, albeit not as easy to disengage, lock.

Not trying to force the Millie idea down your throat, but I have the ti model and it is one of my all time favorites. Amazing finish, and rock solid knife. The Manix xl that Insipid Moniker suggested is worth a look too.

I may have to take another look at the sebbies. Had one for a little while a long time ago but got rid of it for some reason. The blade shape is looking very appealing to me now and I remember the tolerances were exactly as advertised on it.

If you've got a few extra c-notes hanging around just get yourself one of these. M4, tough as nails and a demon slicer.

Oh yeah, and it flips too. ;)

look at dlt's barkies. they all slice like hell and even the smaller sizes have amazing specs. or just get a custom made to your preferences, although now that i posted i'd also say dozier folders are terrific cutters(rumour has it)

I can only echo what's been said above, Spyderco Military or Manix XL.
The XL in particular feels totally solid in hand, and is ambidextrous too.

Why not take your Strider, have it re ground into a slicer?
That's what I did with a Hinderer 3.5 Spanto and it slices better than the factory slicer. It's like having a new knife.
Big Chris did the re grind.

Gonna definitely have to agree with the Spyderco Military (I've got the Ti Millie, it's lovely) and Cold Steel Talwar/American Lawman suggestions. I would also suggest the Cold Steel AK-47. The high hollow grind on that knife makes it slice so beautifully; the geometry is just spectacular. It's a laser. You can get it cheap in AUS8A or not so cheap in CTS-XHP. It also has some of the best ergonomics of any knife I've ever held, though you may want to sand that aggressive G10 under the clip a good bit.

Don't underestimate Opinel, either. Wicked value.
