emerson persian. just puttin' it out there-it has a point but it looks like a cutter too.

Figured I would post an update. Ended up getting a zt 0630 from one of the guys here on the forum. Got to handle one here at a local shop and they feel fantastic and looks to be a great slicer with the robustness of a zt. Won't actually get it till tomorrow but here is a pic that he sent me of it.

Sometimes what works for you just doesn't work for others...

It's a preference thing, you know. ;)

Wasn't knocking anyone's choices ITT, some great knives in here. I was more referring to the tons of ridiculous knives on sites named after beers and such that still seem to sell, despite having absolutely impractical designs and pot metal steels. We have a thread on them in this very forum, in fact, and I think to choose a knife like that for serious use is a matter of ignorance rather than preference; for the same price or cheaper than those there are lots of quality products from many different companies.

Wouldn't that be just your opinion? :p

If a choice works for an individual's needs, who the heck are you to call him ignorant? Are you not the ignorant one about his needs when the folder that you think little of, works for his needs?

I don't see how this works for any individual's needs better than at least ten knives that I'm sure you could think of off the top of your head.

What if the person's need is that specific knife to complete a Dark Ops collection? In such a case, no other knife will work better.

Who the heck are you to say what someone needs or does not need? You really can't wrap your small mind around the idea that different people have different needs and you persist in imposing your choices. :thumbdn:

And don't give me that argument about cutting needs because people buy knives for lots of reasons, including ones you can probably not think of.

Okay, fair enough, but the OP is asking for a tough slicer and my original point was that the Buck 110 fits the bill, whereas knives like the one I posted tend not to (at least as well).

Agreed but my point also was that the 110 may not be everyone's choice and that other guy I quoted replied by saying "when will people finally understand this?". Which means what? That people who don't prefer 110's don't understand things?

Anyway, it's all good. I just don't want choices rammed down out throats. :D

Spyderco K2: Slicy beast! CPM 10v. Whats not to like?
Spyderco Manix 2 LW in CPM S110v: Probably the sliciest knife I own. INSANELY SHARP!

Well, I definitely get that.

I don't recall seeing a suggestion from you, though. What do you like for this sort of thing?

Heavy, Bulky, thick, no thumb stud, low end steel(except for special runs)

There are plenty of better choices.

It's tough, it's cheap (except for special runs or custom shoppe models) and it's a good slicer. Were he asking for a modern and 100% practical blade, well...I already suggested the CS AK-47.
