Recommendation? Looking for opinion on bugout or alternatives

The Hogue Deka is basically a better quality bugout alternative at about the same price range. The bugout is a good slim lightweight carry though. I have the 535-3 and it is great. The standard bugout stock scales are a bit meh, but one of the nicest things about the bugout is how easy it is to find aftermarket parts for it.

Is that the C.F./S90V model?

I will also say look at the Spyderco Para 3 lightweight. I have one in CPM-SPY27 and it's a nice knife.

The Hogue Deka is nice too, my cousin has one. However, I do not care for thumbstuds.

I don't have any experience with the Kizers you mention but the one Kizer I did own was very nice.

If it matters to you where it’s made, buy a Bugout (or Para3 LW or Hogue.)

I’m not a Benchmade fan generally and find the Bugout fairly boring yet I carry it more than anything else. As a seller mentioned to me, it punches far above its weight class. And yes I recently bought a second one.

I have two Para 3s, and love the design/execution. But the Bugout pockets better and is lighter. I don’t mind the stock scales at all.

Buy the Bugout you will not be disappointed, I love mine. The bad reviews are by those that do not like the knife, which is fine but there is nothing wrong with the knife . People just like what they like. It rides great in the pocket and does what you want an edc to due, cut and slice. I have a lot of folders from a wide spectrum of brands and I edc one of my Bugouts for a few days every week. If you buy the basic you can always change the scales to something else later on or spend a little more and get one of the more upscale ones now. Bugout Group.jpg

Bugout. Gigantic aftermarket for modding it if that's your thing.

The Bugout is a great knife even if it is a little pricey. Super lightweight, fantastic ergonomics and decent blade geometry. All in all it is very well done. The only real drawback is a slight flexing of the stock scales on the entry model. Notice I said “slight flexing”. Some people make it sound as if it makes the knife unsafe. Just use the knife and don’t worry about it. From a practical standpoint, it is a nonissue.

Another knife worth considering is Benchmade’s Bailout.

Out of everything listed above, IMHO, the Bugout is the one to get.
The Bailout is one that I would consider with the addition of aftermarket scales.

I have some very nice knives, but when I am out in the civilized world, there's a Bugout in my pocket. Hard to find a knife that offers such a great blade in such a lightweight, compact package.
Mine is the Blade HQ special with a 20CV Blade and G-10 scales.

The Bugout is a nice knife. Blade is thin enough to do slicing cuts, Light enough to not feel like a brick in your pocket. Now if you want Tactical it wont be for you. The word Tacticl is just a selling point. Quality is there. Full size or the Mini will do most cutting jobs. A Bug out is in my pocket every day for over a year.

I love the bugout. I have owned a few, sold them and then bought them again…. I currently have one now. I do however think that they are over priced now. When they were closer to 100$ they were a great buy. But now at 157.50$ on bladehq………that’s more than I paid just a few weeks ago for mine from the same place. I think it was 148$ and I thought that was high.

Again, I do love the bugout and it will literally do anything you want, but at that price, I think there are better options. Maybe if it came with g10 or micarta and 20cv….

Still love the bugout though.

It could be argued that just about any American made knife (and some imports) could be considered "over priced". There are Asian imports that cost more than a Bugout.

The Bugout is unbeatable for what you get. You just can't find a lighter full size folder with the lock and capability you get for the price.

I got one wanting to hating it until I carried it. It replaced my hiking fixed blade, and you don't feel it at all. I take it everywhere, sweat all over it, don't care, it's fine.

The complaint about flex on the scales I don't share. The Griptilian originally had these complaints, and the scales were shown to take an unreal amount of pressure before breaking. The Bugout can take plenty, the flex is a non issue for me.

So from a guy who never imagining that I'd like the Bugout, I can't recommend you get anything else till you have one.
