Recommendation? Looking for opinion on bugout or alternatives

The Bugout is unbeatable for what you get. You just can't find a lighter full size folder with the lock and capability you get for the price.

I got one wanting to hating it until I carried it. It replaced my hiking fixed blade, and you don't feel it at all. I take it everywhere, sweat all over it, don't care, it's fine.

The complaint about flex on the scales I don't share. The Griptilian originally had these complaints, and the scales were shown to take an unreal amount of pressure before breaking. The Bugout can take plenty, the flex is a non issue for me.

So from a guy who never imagining that I'd like the Bugout, I can't recommend you get anything else till you have one.
He's 100% right: carry one for a while, and you'll be convinced!

Would there be another similar benchmade that would be better?
I really like their Osbourne. The buscrafter and the proper are all very nice knives. Completely depends what youre looking for. BM pretty much wrote the book on manufactured Balisongs... ive gone to buy a bugout a few times. each time ive had it in my hand, icouldnt see spending the extra money on it. I wouldnt ever use it as much as my g10 spitfire that I use as an electrician every single day.

I would take the Deka 10 to 1 over the bugout. I have the clip point and love it. I recommend visiting your local knife shop and comparing the two.
I'm interested in hearing why you consider the Deka ten times the knife the Bugout is.

Also, I assume it has the dual-spring Axis-type lock that "can" be a weak point? I'm after a Deka, specifically in Magnacut if they could keep them in stock.

I like the design of the Bugout. But I’m not overly fond of plastic-type scales. I know there are aftermarket scales but I’d like to see a titanium Bugout from BM (not aluminum).

I am new to this forum but I am looking to get a new knife for edc. I was going to get the benchmade bugout but I saw many negative reviews about the quality. Should I stick with the bugout or not? If not, I would like to receive recommendations for alternatives at around the same price point ($150 ish). All help is appreciated
Save up a few extra dollars and go for the CF version of the Bugout or Osborne. If you want something a bit more robust go for a Spyderco GB2.

I don't know that is it 10x "better" but I strongly recommend it. I wanted a bugout until I held it amd squished the scales. Granted they may be plenty strong it reminded me of a folding comb I had when I was a young child. Same color and all. The deka's G10 scales are something I prefer the feel of. It's well known for its strength to Weight ratio. I also prefer clip points to drop points in most cases for edc or what I would consider the target market here. The lock feels pretty apples to apples. Same thing imo besides the wolf springs. I have never had an omega spring go out on me in all fairness.

I have liked the CRKT flipper knives: the M-16 line and the heftier M-21 line. If you want one that looks better dressed see the M-18 (but it costs more). Rugged and affordable. Decent steel good enough for daily pocket carry. Flipper makes them easy to open, which is my primary I-Like-m point. No one wants to steal it and affordable enough to get another one if it is lost or broken. They come in sizes, finishes and smooth or serrated blades etc . . .take your pick.

At the other end: If a high alloy blade from a prestige maker is what you need, there is the Chris Reve line in several models at ten times the price. . . .others too, but I like RK.

I say this because, a few years ago, a young man I know had a job in tech support for a law firm. Two years out of high school, he suddenly he had to wear a suit to work and wanted a fake Rolex to help him grey-man himself into the background at the office!

Bugout is a great knife. I have a few and never had a problem. I was going to say deka, but read you dont like them. I would recommend para 3 lw in an upgraded steel or one of the hogue rsk models.

Ah, I went with the DLT model with the gray G10 for that reason so I understand what you're saying there.

I didn't read the whole thread. Has anybody suggested the Kizer Drop Bear?

Aluminum slabs from the factory, Axis-style lock, country of origin may or may not be an issue for you.
