hi i hope someone can help me iam looking for a pocket knife a slicer surpreme.iam not so interested in edge holding ability as i am in edge takeing ability.now i allready own maybe the finest slicer ever made, the humble opinel but iam looking for something with a bit more blade rigidity. so far iam looking at the enzo line up but having never seen one in the flesh i dont know if they will deliver. any suggestions?

If you're looking for blade rigidity, the blade is going to get thicker and thusly, decrease slicing performance. A way around this may be going for a hollow grind, where the spine will remain thick providing rigidity, but the grind can take the edge down very thin. Now, hollow grinds can run into some hiccups depending on what you're cutting given their hard shoulders.

Maybe try a thin FFG Spyderco like the Caly series or FFG Delica/Endura? The Gayle Bradley sports a hollow grind that gets pretty thin at the edge, worth a consideration. I offer up so many Spydies because they build knifes for cutting performance.

Boker urban trapper
Super blue spyderco (any with ffg?)
Higonokami in blue or white paper

What factory knives have AEB-L and a thinner grind?

Get a custom maker/regrinder, thin and less flexible is not common that I know of.
You could grab a cheap 4x36 grinder and random orbital sander and grind a modern knife down to a thinner profile and then work out the grind lines.

Funny because as I was reading your post you said slicer and didn't care about edge retention... I immediately thought Opinel.

Knifebro has a decent suggestion for regrinding, use a hollow grind knife to start with, you won't have to grind as much to thin it, unless it's a low hollow like a manix.

I highly recommend a knife in AEB-L by Gallardo Knives (JoshRG here on the forums). Check out his work here or on instagram.

As mentioned above, the Spyderco Gayle Bradley definitely fits with its high hollow grind, and also has great edge retention with the CPM-M4. The Para-military 2 is another very slicey knife.

I second the Gayle Bradley, incredibility acute with that hollow grind. When a thumb is used to check the edge, it almost sings.

I would have kept it but 5.5oz is too heavy for my taste.

The Gayle Bradley 2 is small and lighter. Should be the knife go look for

The Opinels get thicker and stiffer as you move up. The 9 is stiffer than the 8. The 10 is stiffer than the 9.

I find the 8 to flexy for my tastes and too small for my hand. The 9 is just right for EDC but too flexy for me for hard cutting in wood. The 10 is better for hard wood cutting but is not as slicy as the 9.

Gratuitous shot of an 8 9 and 10 (9 and 10 are modified).

The Spyderco Gayle Bradley is one of my favorite all around knives. It will take whatever it's given. The Paramilitary 2 is also a great slicer, being a thin FFG blade. I'd also recommend taking a look at the Benchmade 943. Although it is not the thinnest blade, it's still pretty thin and takes a ridiculous edge. It's also a great knife to carry because it has a really low profile and is super lightweight.

well thanks for the thoughts and pointers, my problem is that iam more that likely looking for something that dosnt exist. i own many of the above knifes and your right killer slicers all of them and i have even thinned down ( not by very much mind you ) a opinel mostly what iam looking for is a very fine grained steel that wont split hairs but cleave them. the m4 in the gail bradley comes very close but i want more. do i need more? nope but i keep on looking for something that will outperform the opinel i keep thinking there must be something

i was by klotzi yesterday one of the rare knife shops left in switzerland very knowledgeable salespersonel and lots of knifes

I don't think you'll find much of anything that will outdo the Opinel. I can't think of any knives with thinner stock, and you can't really improve on a full flat grind. If you really want to outdo the Opinel I'd look for something custom. I'm a big fan of 1095, you can take it super thin and quite hard, it's still plenty tough at ~63HRC. It won't hold an edge as well as a steel with significant carbide at the same hardness, but at 63HRC it's going to outdo most stainless at 58HRC and will take a super nicely polished and acute edge.

Caly 3.5 zdp 189, Gayle Bradley m4 folder for production. Alan Davis, Walter Wells custom folders.

Spyderco Nilakka comes to mind.

Also the Windmühlenmesser Hippe Kniep. If they are anything like the Robert Herder kitchen knives I have, they would be very thinly ground.
