Looking for tough heavy use folder

The main things i use the knife for include cutting hose straps (like seatbelt material but not as thick, about 1 inch), cable ties, boxes, hard plastic etc.

Perhaps something fully-serrated might be useful?

Good luck, OP! :)

Ditch the folder idea. With that much heavy use an Esse Izula 2 would be a much better option. Or another small fixed blade. They can fit in your pocket too.

+1 on the manix 2, or XL if you want a bigger blade. Once u get used to the ball bearing lock....it's fast & easy...I can put it down.

It sounds like you need a folder with a fully serrated blade and all-pillar construction. The Spyderco Tenacious family perhaps?

Why no one has suggested this is a mystery to me... get a pocket sheath fixed blade. You can either find or make a pocket sheath, even one that clips to the pocket, pretty easily. Anything that folds will perpetually get dirty and need to be cleaned at your job. A fixed blade has 0 moving parts and only needs to be wiped down.

As for the specific blade, it sounds like you need something around a 3" blade or a little bigger. I am not a fixed blade guy, so others will have to take over the specifics, but a more simple carbon steel may work, maybe something like an Izula.

Yeh i would love a fixed blade, but were not aloud to carry them on site. Even safety blades have to be automatic shutting, so the rules are tight.

I looked at some of those options, and i really want a nice folder. Maybe not for practical reasons, my mate at work shorted out his Benchmade Griptillian on a battery and cut a huge chunk out of it like you said Klok. He cleaned it out eventually... I snapped the point off my Skyline trying to open a stuck door latch... So it is a tough environment but i want a nice knife cause i like knives. If i wanted the cheaper option, i would just stay with my cold steel but i want a nice blade that will handle everything i want to throw at it at work. Have looked at the ZT's and they may be a bit big (wide) to carry round all day in my pocket, i do want a HEST, but have seen a few review where the blade is not centered and rattles? If you can imagine it, what i really want is a Muller MSP, the great quality steel, basic design, easy to clean but something of good quality. Problem is its two handed opening and im always holding the thing i have to cut with one hand which only leaves one hand for knife use... I am looking at drilling and fitting a thumbstud but wanted to check all options first :)

I have used serrated in the past and actually found a bit of a hindrance more of the time than they are useful. For what i use them for anyway...

I would second a ZT. The 350 is smaller and pretty easy to pocket carry. Maybe your best bet though would be the Spyderco gayle Bradley. It is a perfect fit for your criteria. M4 steel is top notch, and the knife was designed to be a cutting machine. It's easy to open and close one handed and very pocket friendly.

The two folders I have that seem head-and-shoulders "tougher" than the others are a Zero Tolerence 0301 and an original Spyderco Manix. I think both are above your price point and, both are quite a load in a pocket all day. :-(

Check out the smaller ZT 0350. I bet it could deal with your hard use requirements.

Stay sharp,

if you liked the voyager except for the plastic handles why not get a recon 1, a Ak-47 or a Lawman? I know they are not super nice knives but they are basically voyagers with full g10 handles. And the lawman and Ak both have mini versions while I think there are 4 or 5 different sized recon 1s now. I don't personally like them that much but I have a medium voyager and a full size ak and I have to admit they are good working knives

Benchmade 15020. Fits every need you are looking for. One handed opening with a strong lock though very easy to close one handed as well. D2 steel holds an excellent edge for a long time. Textured G10 scales will not absorb grease and oil but remain grippy under dirty conditions. Even when gritty, the axis lock is easy to operate and locks solid. I paid about 100 dollars for mine. I am a machinist and it is my go to working blade.

I've been looking for ya. Spyderco tuff is way expensive and probably too big. I wish you luck in your quest and hope you find "the one". If you do find it, please post and let us know. Thanks

Wow cheers guys i love the look of the Grayman Dua and the Benchmade 15020. Rekon ill get them both and see how i go getting them through customs :)

Ah so many options! Got a good few to choose from now, just have to check some reviews and such and find out what i think will be the best for me. Thanks heaps guys!

I forgot to mention a Svord Peasant. If you find a metal handle one it will be plenty strong, cheap, tough steel, and one handed. I love mine.

Forgot to mention that the Peasant can be taken apart in like 6 seconds. All you need is a small coin.
