Actually, the motor mounts completely independent of the grinder. A base mount is what is needed. That motor is base mount. It would work for a kmg, but the OBM is c-face mount iirc.
I prefer a 1750 rpm motor. I also do not recommend buying one from HGR. I do a fair bit of business with them and while I'm more than happy with them, you're rolling the dice as they do not test the used surplus they buy. I mean at all. They don't turn it on or spin the shaft.
Kuraki, I agree with you about that. They just buy in bulk and sell. They do offer a short warranty so you can test it out yourself.
Also, for me, I go there and buy in person. Not sure if Kitty is local enough or not, but if he is, I'd recommend to visit and touch it. The 2 Baldor motors I picked out there looked to be new (and were a great deal).
Those TECO drives are good drives, but the one you linked to is only a 1hp, and will not run a 1.5hp motor. You can run a motor that's equal or less than the rated VFD power, but not the other way around. In other words, a larger VFD is ok, a larger motor is not.
You might look at the "eBay specials" for something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5KW-2hp-7...386082?hash=item541689dae2:g:XJ8AAOSw0vBUkjm0
The nice thing about that one is the speed knob that's a little easier to control without holding buttons down. Keep in mind, the cheaper vfds (including the TECOs are open frame, so they need to be in a seperate dust proof enclosure, or wrapped with filter paper or something so that they're kept clean and all the metal dust stays out.
If you want a single phase 110vac in, 220vac 3ph out, then you may have to look at something like a kbac-27d, or something similarly a little pricier. 110VAC input can get you up to 1.5hp on SOME drives. Most of the cheaper drives are either 1hp for 110vac input, or shoot right up to 2hp at a 220vac input, or at least as far as I've seen recently. Somebody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
If you can run a 220VAC circuit, you'll have some better options on lower cost, higher power vfds.
You don't need a 220v circuit the 110v is fine to run a VFD 3phase system....however the VFD is the key component to get max hp from the motor. A 2hp MINIMUM rated VFD is required to NET 1-1/2hp from a rated 2hp motor on a 110v circuit.
The 1hp rated system is just going to cause frustration when you start grinding and see how easy it stalls and you take hours to grind instead of minutes. I have 1hp VFD's on disc grinders and I can stall them when I get in a rush and start hogging material.
Well the problem is the VFD HP ratings. This is the BEST unit on the market unfortunately also the highest priced. These are all I run in my shop A++++

As for drive wheels, most "standard" drive wheels are between 4" and 5" diameter with a 5/8" bore, though I think OBM and VWJackStraw both offer a 7/8" bore as well. 3HP will work, though Personally I don't think you'll ever need more than 2hp. Heck, even 1.5hp for a direct drive setup is probably more than most guys would bog down.
I don't think there's much price difference between a 2hp and 3hp VFD if you go one way or the other.
I did actually see that unit, so that would push a 2HP motor at around 1.5HP? Looks like it is the only option so I can bite the bullet and pick it up along with a 2HP Motor... Blows over the budget though...and I ran out of knives to sell
