Love my Vic Farmer!

Yes they are on sierra tradingpost for 24.95 plus shipping I just oerdered one, last week I almost bought one for 48.99 Im glad I waited thanks to BL.

I went to order two with the AAA flashlight but didn't really need the flashlights. However, at a buck more than the knife alone it made sense. Problem was when I got to the shipping - $10! That broght the cost over what you can get them for on Amazon from time to time with free shipping included. I have so many knives (only one Farmer with silver Alox scales) that I didn't need them at all anyway. Would be nice to have a red one though. ;)

I bought my Farmer along with a Trekker on Amazon last year. Free shipping and the Farmer was like $19.

Just got mine today. One fine knife! I still think I will grind the lanyard ring off. It came razor sharp. Going to use mineral oil, on the pivots, should be healther when using to peel apples.

I wish victorinox would make an alox scale knife with a pair of pliers.

Till then I will use my leatherman.

Go to the swiss army page and you will see them for 24.99 with shipping I think it came to 30.00. They come in red blue and silver.

I got one a couple of months ago when I lost my Soldier...

Awesome little knife! Definitely a WSS cult tool.

Herasy spoken: I don't love my Farmer! I bought one to replace my Tinker. I really wanted the saw. Ended up missing the toothpick, tweezers, and phillips head so much I searched around and found the Hiker. The Hiker is the ultimate SAK for me. The Farmer now rests in a dedicated PSK. It's a great knife, it just doesn't have the tools I need for an EDC. Heresy spoken!

As much as I love the Farmer for it's "heavy duty" build, larger size and clean good looks (I have a couple of them), it's the Hiker that I have in each of my bags and packs. I carry a fixed blade when I'm in the woods but like to keep a SAK handy for the little tools I might need.

I can't believe you guys are trashing up this thread with all this "Hiker" talk! :)

Actually, the Hiker was my edc for many many years. Then I switched over to a Rucksack for a while. Then a Farmer, and now it's a modded Farmer w/scissors.

The Hiker and Rucksack are excellent knives that have attributes that the Farmer certainly lacks. I ain't going back, though. :)

Scissors?!?!?!

You put scissors on a Farmer? And you're giving us a hard time for liking the Hiker?

I'm speechless....

I love my Farmer too. I've carried it daily since Christmas day. I used it last night to screw on some weights to my sons Pinewood Derby car. It's so much more useful than my Benchmade Mini AFCK I've carried for the past 10 years. I tested the saw on a 4" pine on a hike... Simply amazing.

That almost brings a tear to my eye.

My Mini-AFCK was my first "good" knife; the one that got me hooked on knives. It's funny... even though I love all the handy tools on a SAK, I continue to EDC a larger folder like the Benchmade Mini-AFCK, AFCK, Osborne, or 710.

If I'm going to be doing something where I anticipate the possible need for small tools, I'll carry a Leatherman Wave. For me, a SAK is something to tuck away in my packs, truck glove box, fishing vest, etc.

The farmer's a nice balance of tools, mine is always on my keys but it detaches easy enough that I slip it in my pocket when I'm not drivin' somewhere.

Touche!
:D

There's a guy over on knifeforums that doesn't like the scissors mod either. The whole rest of the knife is built like a tank, and the scissors are comparatively fragile. I sure find it useful, though. Before getting the mod, I used to carry a Vic Signature along with the Farmer. The Signature is basically a Classic with a retractable pen but without the toothpick. That gave me my scissors, and it weighs exactly the same as the Farmer w/scissors.

I have a Huntsman that I love and If it had Pliers, it would be my perfect SAK but it dont so Ill just keep with my farmer. If I ever lose the Farmer then the Huntsman will go back into service. I love that Farmer so much that I am wanting to order a few more.

The Farmer is evil. I ordered a couple for my sons - they were less than $30/2 shipped. I lusted for them... wanted one red and one silver... had to order something else... got a Trekker. Now I have looked for a blue Farmer so long, I even bid considerably more than what I paid total for my pair... and was sad when I lost that evil-bay war. I mentioned that on another, SAK-only, sub-forum. One of the enablers there suggested 'irawoods.com' - never heard of them - got two blue Farmer tins - with AA LED lite - on the way. Got a b'day gift for #1 son, too, for this month - $30/ea + $6 s/h.

The Farmer is evil - addictive - but, after 30-odd years of SAK-carry, it's a real winner - great woods-stomping companion. Sip of the Farmer kool-aid...

In the end, we all think alike. The SAK tools I like most in a knife are the scissors, wood saw, can opener/screwdriver and awl. As you can see, a Farmer with scissors would be perfect for me. :D

I once had a little pair of folding scissors that I'd throw in my pack when camping. I don't know what ever happened to them. They were cheap, light and functional. I need to pick up a couple more when I see them again.

The Hiker is one heck of a knife. I have carried mine many a mile. Seems like an old friend. Do scissors come in handy?
