Not a big fan, but not vehemently opposed either.

I just think it's a lose-lose, really. Makes it harder to get out of the pocket and isn't that much more discrete.
If I need to be discrete, I just put the knife in my pocket (usually).

A knife is a tool sitting in the pocket (what happens when you take it out is up to you). I prefer no low rider clips unless I really like the knife. If I am using my knife for a job and putting it in and out of my pocket, a low rider is a pain. I can't stand it when I have to reach across to pull out a non protruding knife in the opposite pocket with my weak hand, when my strong hand unexpectedly is tied up holding something. Another thing, having to use a quick draw to get a knife out isn't just for defensive situations, but also for emergency situations.

i think the standard ZT clip is the best out there, if someone sees a low riding clip they'll be just as suspicious if it showed 2 cm if knife scale

I like both for different reasons on different knives. I think there are definitely benefits to not having anything that denotes "knife" able to be seen. However, it is often easier to quickly retrieve the knife if there is a bit of handle about the pocket lip.

I think the real issue is the grippiness of the area where you grab and the tightness of the clip, no matter where the knife rides.

Who cares that 50% like em. The day that knives are available with only low rider clips is the day I stop buying knives.

I don't mean to start a fight, but that's a bit extreme. If that day came there would be countless people making non-low ride clips for popular knives, and someone making custom clips for custom knives.

I decided to cheat on the whole clip/lanyard thing.

I love that clip/lanyard. Especially since it's attached to a traditional. Did you make it? If not, could you let me know where you got it?

I think that low ride clips don't do anything to hide the fact that you're carrying a knife. I know immediately that its a knife regardless of the clip. I would think that most non knife people wouldn't know if you're carrying a knife even with part if it sticking out because they're just not accustomed to recognizing what a knife looks like clipped to a pocket.

I prefer a deep carry clip.

I don't like having a knife sticking up out of my pocket.

A clip could be any number of things, but a knife showing sticking up out of your pocket tells all.

I have never had much trouble getting my knife out of my pocket when it is clipped using any of my low-riding clips.

The poll is showing about 25% overall prefer a high-rider or not having a high-rider is a deal breaker , while almost 50% prefer the low rider.

Is this really that big an issue? I have carried a knife everyday since I was in high school (different world back then) before there were clips, I carried in a belt sheath (Buck 110). Since the advent of the modern folder I have carried with a pocket clip.

I have never not one time had anyone mention or even seem to notice my knife.

Granted when I am at work, I am not in the office, as I am a field tech, and I carry various items on my belt, but on my off time I still always have a knife on me, and have never had an issue.

don't like deep carry clips. typical spyderco military clip is perfect IMO.

then again, I often carry traditional knives loose in my pocket, so it's not necessarily about ease of draw.

just, if it's going to have a clip it might as well be a more efficient one. I couldn't care less if someone sees my knife.

- I work at a large corporate with casual dress Fridays. I was carrying an Emerson in my front right pocket and a co-worker came to my desk. He actually asked what was clipped to my pocket since the clip was large and didn't seem like a pen. Since I know him fairly well, I showed him the knife. Needless to say, I started to carry a low rider stealth clip after that.

It's the only time in my life I've ever been asked about the pocket clip.

And I will NOT PAY someone to make a custom clip for an already expensive knife. I will just NOT BUY knives with low rider clips. If I do not like it 100% as it is to be delivered, I can live without it.

Never got the big deal with them. Maybe it's the area I live in, but I've never had anyone look at me "oddly' for having knife and it having a bit sticking out makes it easier to grab on to, and for some knives, it makes it perfect to grab on to out of the pocket. The benchmade 710 I EDC carries like that and it's second nature to pull it out and have it in the natural position to deploy it,

If a knife has a low-rider and it's too difficult for you to take out of your pocket... practice at it a few times. The ZT 0550 (2nd gen) I have can be pulled from my pocket in a hurry. Now, not fixed blade strapped to your thigh hurry, but fast enough to cut up that cardboard box you're after anyway.

It's a clip, guys. The knife is the important thing - learn how to carry it and draw it from your pocket regardless of the way it clips to your pocket. The design of the blade isn't worthless just because the clip rides a little lower that you're used to.

I prefer the standard pocket clips. I like the standard spyderco/benchmade clips. I have a 0560 and i have a hard time putting the knife in my pockets because the screw heads catch the seams of my jeans. I think that the perfect clip is the Sebenza's clip, has the perfect amount of knife sticking out.

You recognize that it's a knife, as do the rest of us, since we're here posting on Bladeforums as knife fans. The average non-knife person doesn't recognize a normal clip as a knife half the time though, let alone a low-riding clip that leaves little to nothing showing.

I've never, not one time been questioned about my pocket clip knives. I've carried a pocket clip knife every day for over a decade.

I've also never cared about low ride/high ride. Never.

I have always had an affinity for the 3-3.5" folders, so I'm not carrying smaller knives (nor HUGE folders either).

To those that say "other people will know what it is." Well, I don't care 1 iota. Not one. Might have something to do with the fact that there are LOTS of people here that carry clip knives. I see them everywhere (but I scan people's beltlines/pockets as a habit).
