Is this really that big an issue? I have carried a knife everyday since I was in high school (different world back then) before there were clips, I carried in a belt sheath (Buck 110). Since the advent of the modern folder I have carried with a pocket clip.

I have never not one time had anyone mention or even seem to notice my knife.

Granted when I am at work, I am not in the office, as I am a field tech, and I carry various items on my belt, but on my off time I still always have a knife on me, and have never had an issue.

It is to me.

I like my knife out a bit making it easier as well.

For my office knife I took off the clip and had the wife sew a slot into my left pocket of the dress pants I have to wear, it was 10 pairs but I bought her flowers and took her to dinner and a movie :)
Now I just slip the knife in and it does not move around and in not noticeable, the knife pocket comes up to just over half the length of the knife..

I don't have a strong preference. I base my decision on which knife to carry on a specific day based on needs and seldom does the clip play a big role in that decision.

It is going to depend on your context. If you work in an enviroment you could cause enough of a stir you are going to be disciplined... Then you are going to love low ride clips. It also depends on where you live. I have lived in places where most males had a knife clipped in a pocket and most were autos. I have lived in places you did not want a knife seen. I can be as macho about it as I like, but if doing so is going to affect the security and livelihood of my family I am going to think long and hard about it.

That being said, there is no free lunch. A low carry knife is harder to get out of the pocket. However it should be noted, that if you are in enviroment where low profile carry is the norm, it is also normally a place where you are not going to have to take the knife out a lot anyway. IMHO.

The best low ride clips? Spyderco's wire clip is great and does not look like a clip. The clip on the ZT 560 is good, and the clips on some of the James Williams stuff from CRKT are great. SOG has a few notable ones, but the one on the Folding Trident always gets loose and annoys me, has not be the case with the Flash or Aegis.

Not necessarily a deal breaker for me but it's up there on my list.

I prefer the way my knives sit in the pocket with a deep carry clip, I've had no problems extracting any knife with a deep carry clip from my pocket and since I work in an office, being discreet is a plus.

I dress business casual for work, so I have a lot of khakis and chinos with vertical pocket openings. I have more confidence that low riding knives will not fall/get knocked out of my pocket.

I want some knife to grab. I used to think a low rider clip meant people didn't know I had a knife, then I saw a guy with a low rider clip and said to myself, "he's not fooling anybody, that's a pocket knife clip". Myth busted for me...

I hate how clips get in the way of grabbing other things in my pocket.

Now that I have a leather pouch, I keep knife inside pouch inside pocket and wouldnt change a thing.

If you need to access a knife constantly in 0.2 seconds then maybe you need a clip.

A clip also frees up some real estate in your pocket. Especially if you pocket carry a firearm, magazine, phone, etc.

I don't like too much sticking out, but don't mind a little, and certain knives I prefer a little. I think it looks a little goofy with too much sticking out. Those would usually be a knife like the Gayle Bradley, because I might be wearing gloves while using it. I thought I loved deep carry clips because of Spyderco's wire clip, but really I just love the wire clip. How low the knife rides is not the only reason, it is the way the single screw is recessed and does not interfere with the knife going all the way down. I don't have a 561, but its clip looks awesome too. In extreme cases a knife can jab you when you sit, but I realized that is not common.
