M4 940

Just a quick question to those who purchased this knife. Did your knife come with the toxic green anodized spacers similar to the 940-2? I bought two one has black spacers and the other had the green. I just found it curious that there could be variations in this run. The green does look pretty cool.

Received mine Thursday and it has all black hardware which I like with the natural shaded g10. Also came with split arrow style clip. Blade HQ stated that this 940 was a 20th anniversary edition.
I wondered if the early 940's had split arrow clip and if not what type clip did Benchmade install on them originally? Was this clip also created by Warren Osbourne?
Thanks for your response!

I don't understand why BM feels the need to coat all their M4 blades. Yes, I know it's a BHQ exclusive, but, the Super Phreak. That would have looked so much better without the coating. I know I'm not the only one, guess we don't number enough.
I do prefer satin M4 as well.

Finally got mine. The screws they used that go through the scales are too long and project through. The blade is so off centered it hits one of these screws. Very disappointed with the assembly.

Unacceptable! The excessive length is really apparent w/ black screws and natural g10 scales. This 940- 2004 edition is supposed to be a tribute 20th anniversary of Warren Osborn’s 940 classic.

I just went and checked both of my examples from this run. They both have the longer longer scales screws. I compared this to my 940-2 and it protrudes the same amount from the liner, which appears to be a thread to a thread and a half. I can see this being an issue if you have a blade that won’t center since the edge and the blade coating could be damaged by contacting the screws.

Sucks to read you got a less than perfect example. Hope you are able to get the blade recentered and your blade was not damaged. There is a thread on recentering blades in this sub forum if you need some assistance.

I’d be interested to see a picture of the one with green spacers. You’re the first person I’ve seen mention this happening though! Weird!

LuxN, Sorry I missed your post. I checked and for my two examples one was made in August and the other was made in November. I took both out of the box the day I got them, so I don’t know which knife came from which month. The one with the green spacer, I did a scale swap with some Rockscale Designs titanium scales.

that’s crazy! On a side note, did you end up keeping the scales you took off?

Yes, I plan on keeping them in case I need to swap them back, or the knife needs to go back to Benchmade for any reason.
