I doubt you would have such a blase attitude about this if you had some of

the issues some have their Golden made knives....if you had a knife you

couldnt fix yourself. Be Glad you're one of Lucky ones that got a good 1.

Not funny to those who were not Lucky.

A little compation goes a long way.

Adding some drama here maybe? Did it really affect you that deeply?

Resolve the issue and drive on. Looking for compassion here of all places further confuses me. Good luck, not that you should need it. This is an easy fix ( the knife, not the need for compassion in your desire to......um, What?

I agree with you. I'm happy with mine. If I don't keep mine it won't have anything to do with the quality of my knife because it is VERY high. I've had much worse OOTB from reputable manufacturers.

I kind of danced around this point in an earlier post but I guess I'll say it a little more plainly and probably get run out of the house. From time to time there are threads bashing Spyderco's use of off-shore production facilities. As much as I abhor what's happened to domestic industrial production, the fact is that the knives that come out of Golden seem to be a slight step down in F&F and somewhat more variable than knives like the Sage series and the Gayle Bradley.

I do think that saying there are "lots" of grind problems, as one of thte posts did, is just wrong, on the numbers. There are 200 of these knives out there now and I don't think I've seen more than two or three complaints about the grind, which is a pretty good rate.

This is a small-run production knife. The concept and design is exceptional and the quality of F&F is very, very high, notwithstanding a few knives that got out the door with issues. That's inherent in production goods, whether it's cameras or knives or microwave ovens. I still give a hearty thank-you to Sal, Roger and everyone else who brought this project to reality. More than I meant to type...

You would be wrong to doubt my attitude....I still selected only ONE of those options.

I am not blase...I believe that there are very real solutions available to anyone not satisfied with the subject knife. I offered 2 such solutions...if you select the "complaint" solution, it would be wise (IMO) to direct that complaint to someone who is actually capable of helping you (Spyderco, or KnifeWorks).

These are nothing other than suggestions for what I believe to be the most effective solutions.

Wrong. :D This is the internet, everyone can do both (and B can be repeated ad infinitum).

Even if your knife is that bad, c'mon, it's just a knife. There are lots of knives out there...

I have to point out that a recent limited edition run of knives by another manufacturer was basically an unmitigated disaster. Take all the negative posts and events about the C36GTIP, square it, and you still have only a fraction of that other episode.

??? Care to tell me the knife, just so I can avoid one on the secondary market?

I've got a Great idea...why dont we trade M4 Millies. I can have a good one

and you can have 1 that Spyderco cant fix. :D:D They offered me a credit...Im getting my knife back.

We both waited 11 months...luck of the draw I guess...too bad all the m4

Millies couldnt have been as good as yours:p

Please bear with me, I'm a little unclear here. What exactly is "wrong" with your knife that Spyderco can't fix, or is it "normal" and you just don't like it ?

And if they offered you your money back in some form of credit, why are you taking back "the defective knife" ? Or did I get that wrong ?

For the record, I can feel friction as the detent ball grinds over the M4 surface and I can even hear it if I listen. I've handled Sebenzas and it sure isn't like a Sebenza. I don't think you'd want my knife either.

I guess I'm in the minority too. I was very dissapointed when I got my M4

Millie. The action was quite rough when I got it ....not something thats

common with a Spydie. I took the blade out and lubed it with CRK grease...

thinking this might help...no change. I worked the action several hundred

times...the action got smoother but not as smooth as I thought it should be

for a new RIL frame lock ti knife. I have a dozen or so other ti frame locks

that came very smooth to me and have gotten even smoother.

I sent the knife back to Spyderco on Monday of this week hoping they could

make it smoother. I got a call today(Thursday). They couldnt do anything

to make it any smoother. The detent ball is rubbing on the blade due partly

to the RIL lock...this what I was told. They tweaked it a little and will

ship it to back to me tommorow.

I guess some of us were lucky and got a knife with a smooth action and

the unlucky ones didnt. Luck of the draw I guess.

After waiting almost a year I thought I would get a much smoother $220

knife than I got.

As I understand it the knife is fully functional/ not out of spec? but too rough in opening.

Roughness is sort of subjective, like grip comfort. What may be fine for me could be completely unacceptable for Clockman.

Though I'd imagine that by now Clockman has had a few offers on his knife, the complaint itself is both valid and his right.

I'm all for trying to be satisfied with a purchase and subsequent performance. I have faith that this one will turn out ok despite the lack of satisfaction at this time.

Either the knife will break in, or he could sell or trade it for a profit.

Clockman, Good luck and hopefully it still will turn for you. Joe/Raleigh

I would never suggest that someone open up their knife and void the warranty, but after extended disbelief I gave the CRK grease a try in some other knives and in every case it significantly smoothed up the knife.

Hi guys -

When I removed the blade on mine to clean and lube the pivot, I noticed that the blade had been polished somewhat where the detent ball travels across the blade surface.

I used a felt wheel on my dremel and some polish on that area to smooth the action out even more, and then put some gunslick on the pivot and the detent ball.

My example was pretty smooth to start with, but I wanted to do that "tune" that I put on all my knives. I guess it is just the tinkerer in me.

However, I can tell that the folks at Spyderco gave some attention to the contact point between the lock-bar/detent and the blade, where I have not seen evidence of this specifically on other knives I have owned.

I hope those that are not satisfied (or were disappointed) will find satisfaction eventually.

best regards -

Missed this the first time around. Not interested in a trade but I will gladly buy yours for your full costs including shipping both ways.
