I will note that I did have some mods planned for my Military, but I never expected Spyderco to do them. Aftermarket mods, here I come.

I just noticed that new member Psycoman voted that he's not satisfied with his. I'm certain he doesn't even have an M4 Military. :thumbdn: He's been a troublemaker from the start, in this and other forums. Go through his posts and decide for yourself.

So you can subtract one from the "disappointed" vote.

Common sense: if you don't have one, don't vote.

And I would assume we are differentiating between dissatisfied and disappointed as I consider them different. I voted satisfied BTW.

I'm satisfied overall with mine M4 Millie as well, the blade is very slightly off center, but besides that it's very well made. The lock up is the most solid of any of my other knives, absolutely no blade play, smooth opening. I definitely like the addition of the steel insert for better lock wear and the added lock stop. If I could have had it changed a bit I would prefer.
- Textured Titanium, something like the xm-18 or strider titanium side, second choice would be like the texturing of the umnum. For grip but also to make it look more interesting.
- four sided clip mounts or at least 2
Can't really think of anything besides this, I'd love to see S90V and/or the new Carpenter version of S90V slated to come out on the para 2 in January.

I knew what my big disappointment would be when I placed my order, and I was right. It has a big honkin' boat anchor slab of metal on one side that I hate. ;)

Is the fit and finish on mine equal to a $500 hand-fitted custom? Nope. Did I expect it to be? Nope. Do I think it would be reasonable to expect it to be? Nope. But reason leaves the building when people don't get their instant gratification. Make them wait a while and their expectations run away with them. I'm pretty sure that anyone who is disappointed with their harlequin Millie can sell it at a profit and buy something else.

What I look forward to is your take on how the M4 fares with drywall. What I mean is it will be great when we've used it enough to start talking about performance, which to me is the bottom line.

I fear that a lot of these will not really be used for a while. Due to the perceived collector/investment value. Some guys will though...and even then, I think you need a decent amount of time in use to really get a good picture of what is going on.

Give it 6 months to a year...then you will start getting these reports.

Even then...there is a certain amount of personal preference to steels. Regardless of how amazing a steel might be...there are those that prefer a super high polished edge, some that love big mean carbides, some that tolerate chipping and some that prefer rolling/compression as a failure mode.

Everything fails...it really depends on how you use and how that failure impacts your use....may be this is not the place to discuss this?

I'm perfectly happy with mine. The fact that it won't put the right amount of pepper on my eggs in the morning doesn't bother me.

i only seen 2 things wrong with my knife when it first arrived.

1)gritty opening.. easily fixed with some blue lube.... problem solved.

2) the only thing that got me was the bad sharpening job. to me it looked like they grinded away a lot at the bottom of the edge like a small j at the start of the edge. but then i seen other peoples m4 millies and that is just how they are. i'm not used to it like that so i overreacted. my bro got his m4 millie today and his sharpening job wasn't that great also. He took pics of it i will post when he e-mails them to me. other then that his knife is perfect. after u put a mirror edge on it the blade will be just fine. problem solved.

This is my first millie(and spydero) and the knife is awesome. great ergos and function. the new frame lock feels VERY solid. if the new lock bar will increase life only time will tell. I'm happy with the knife just not the sharpening. once i get a good edge put on it will be an awesome knife. i give it 2 thumbs up.

My 22 year old son got his recently. His sounds like it is a really nice production-quality knife, from his description. I may have lucked out a bit - it's not quite a Sebenza but the Seb can feel some hot breath on its back or at least hear my C36GTIP following close behind.

My only complaint: we could only buy one. And, for what it's worth, the price on this one was about what I paid for my CPM-D2 Millie and less than I paid for my S90V Millie...no complaints here at all.

Got mine today and it's really great. Perfectly centered, 50% lockup, shaving sharp, it's everything I expected.

I'm satisfied with mine.

I knew it would be butt-heavy and I figured it would not be the smoothest opening knife. No surprises.

Overall, I see it as another progression in the evolution of the model line - though I can live without the butt-heavy attribite.

Super satisfied!

I feel I paid for what I got and then some!

Honestly, M4, Ti RIL, G10 and all in the design of the Millie for $220?!
Not to mention the exclusivity of only 500 made!

Satisfied with mine. Blade's centered and locks up well. Being nearsighted I noticed a couple of cosmetic things on mine, but they're insignificant to me and probably to most people. Actually it's a bonus: throw ten on a table and I'm pretty sure I could find mine. The M4 has a different vibe to it than my Orange Millie or my Sage2. It reminds me more of my G10 Endura. Heavy, strong, grippy, with a smooth & solid lockup. I was worried about the big Ti slab but it works for me. Feels good in my hand. It's a user.

Like the way yablanowitz put this:
Is the fit and finish on mine equal to a $500 hand-fitted custom? Nope. Did I expect it to be? Nope. Do I think it would be reasonable to expect it to be? Nope.

Thanks to Sal, the crew, and Roger for a sweet project.

That's a thoughtful distinction. When I read some of the posts I have to say I'm puzzled. Many of the "disappointment" posts seem to be based on the knife being exactly as described when it was offered for sale. It was always going to be essentially a production knife (with the change in the non-locking scale from Ti to G10), and it was sold at a production knife price. There was never any mention of an improved clip, different lanyard attachment, etc. The upgrade to the new lockbar insert (which probably delayed delivery) was actually an unadvertised improvement, but few have mentioned that as an offset to their disappointment. Perhaps a lot of the disappointment comes from the wait? Dunno, and none of this really matters to me, since I'm a buyer rather than a manufacturer or dealer...but I remain somewhat puzzled.

Seems that way to me too!
