madborderman07 special ordered an unusual Kephart from me in early September, it shipped to him in early October, after I notified him it was ready, and to send the money order for $147.00. He received the knife, but I received no payment, so I emailed him again. Here is the email I sent.

I could really use the money for the knife. When do you plan on sending it? John

This was his reply, received on October 27th.

john, sorry, i have been super busy---no excuses, i will get it out by wed, were traing a huge brigade from PA and i have been working crazy hours---still no excuses, WED John, won't happen again!!!! if you had paypla i would get it to you now, but wed is when i will get it out, th eknife has been sitting in my truck , anticipating it use. I hope you understand.
thanks jesse

I still have not received payment, or anymore replies to my emails or PM`s.

My dealings with him have been at the passaround level, and I believe he has been dependable.
That being said, he has been on here since and should respond to this. You have been patient it seems, and a month is too long to be excused in my book. I hope this gets resolved.

I did have a money order go missing a while back. We kept waiting and it did eventually arrive. The envelope was stamped "found in equipment presumed empty" by USPS. (or something similar to that).

What was different in my case is that the member and I kept on touch. Hhe offerred to send another, but we just waited it out.

Don't give up to soon. Hopefully, he will be in touch and this will sort out.

as he stated... there is no excuse for this... a month is way too long to have no paymant and no communication...:thumbdn:

Hope it can get resolved quickly John. You are a great maker and a good guy to deal with and nobody deserves to be stiffed for their hard work.

John that sucks:thumbdn:

I know sometimes it can be a PIA to get a money order, but the man should still step up and reply to your emails.

I hope he steps up and makes it right.

Thanks for posting that in GB&U, John. I hope it is settled to your satisfaction.

i always tend to send money orders via certified letter. it only costs a little bit but gives me some peace of mind about loss. it might be more inconvienent to have to sign for it but that makes a record of delivery too.

Communication, communication, communication!!

Could be the difference between a misunderstanding, a memory lapse or the complete loss of one's credibility and reputation!!

From some of his posts I gather he is in the military. It may also be deer season-rifle as it's that time of the year, [BUT it only takes a minute to send an E-mail or a whopping 10 minutes to mail out a money order or have someone else do it!!!

Communication, communication, communication; I cannot stress it enough!!!!

Yep. If anything, I err on the side of being annoying by sending too many emails when I have a deal with someone. I'd rather keep them informed and have them get annoyed at all the emails in their inbox than wondering where their stuff is.

I email when I am ready to start, inquiring if they are still wanting it.
If requested I email in process pics.
I email when it`s done.
I email them tracking numbers.
I email at least once a week when some a**hole does not pay.

I really hope this is a case of "inconsiderate" instead of a case of "theft". It's a shame this kind of stuff happens.

Here's hoping it all works out for you.

That's a d*Mn shame. You are so nice as to send the knife before pmt and then your kindness is not reciprocated.

Also that's not some big price you put on there so I can't see how that would be an obstacle.

John,
Apparently my first post was eaten by the system, I'll try again.

Don't give up on this guy yet, it may take a few months of mailing invoices with "Overdue Payment Request" written in red on the envelope but you may eventually get your money. Forget emails, they're private.

I have a small business too (custom hiking sticks) and typically get payment before I fill the orders. In one case, with a repeat customer, I sent out a special order before payment...that experience required 4 months of sending invoices with the red "Overdue" statement to finally get paid. I was hoping he would get embarrassed knowing that someone who might know him at the post office, and of course the postman, would keep seeing that he was ripping off somebody. I learned that lesson quickly.

It might be worthwhile for you to get a PayPal account...yes it costs about 3% in fees, but you also get the convenience of your customers using what ever credit card they want and you get paid up front. Don't let this get you down, it's just a "life blip" your creativity will recharge and you'll be on your way again...I wish you the best.

A big portion of my day job consists of "deciphering" what a person is saying and what he is NOT saying. This guy Jesse is saying alot.

He is saying: "I'm lazy. I have no respect for you. I have a knife and you don;t. Chump. On second thought, I have little respect for myself, you can see it in my empty promise."

Prove me wrong. I've been wrong before.... 1984 I think......

Amen! I ran an eBay store for two years and specified I would accept PayPal (preferred), money order or certified check. In two years I only had a couple customers send checks. I believe PayPal increases sales as well as offering great protection. It's more convenient for buyer and seller and the buyers get their product more quickly.
