"Made in Sheffield" 1830-1930, A golden age ?

Thank you Jack and Duncan, couple pictures of the 2 together.

I got this old thing almost exactly a year ago and have enjoyed carrying quite a bit since . It has always appeared to me to be a knife that fits the parameters the OP has asked for but I can not prove it because there is no blade stamp and most likely never was . I have posted it many times in other threads , but I would like for you folks who haunt this thread to give me your opinions who made it and when it was made . I think it was a parts knife made by a pretty good cutler prior to 1895 . It has Integral Bolsters a Squared spring , blade , and bolsters end .

Was the knife shape made to fit the Stag ????

Harry

Marsden Bros Sheffield (no England)
Uber-Gnarly shadow pattern at 3"! Always amazes me every time I slide it out of its knife roll!! :p

Great stag on all of these! All are properly cut, with no bark ground off to match a bolster.

Another old Sheffield pruner; J.Crookes, Sheffield!
Jigged, channeled/grooved/"stagged" bone handles, integral bolsters! Hammered pins!!

Started around 1780, sold in 1910 and again in 1947, it is hard to date this apparently unused knife!! Is it a Golden Ager??
Any help is appreciated!!

Wow! I don't know if it's a Golden Ager or not, but it's impressive.

I have a Jonathan Crookes ink eraser knife, but don't know if it qualifies either. It's interesting to compare tang stamps, anyway.

Fantastic Charlie :) Are the bolsters definitely integral?

I have always admired the Jonathan Crookes 'Heart and Pistol' mark, it's real Old School Sheffield  VERY impressive Rachel

Rachel, I think your eraser is quite a bit older!!🤔
Anyone else??

Thanks, Jack!! No, after a closeup look with a strong glass, I see a fine line!! They are very thin which led me to believe they were integral!!

I also think the eraser is older Charlie

Thanks for taking a look my friend. not always easy to spot at all

I came across a Jonathan Crookes swell center jack (Coke Bottle) a couple weeks ago that was in absolute lovely shape and I found the tang stamp to be incredibly charming. However, the seller was not at all interested in shipping outside of the UK, nor was he keen on working out any alternatives. Unfortunately, it soon sold afterwards and I'll just have to remember it as one of those "could-have-been" situations.

I managed to save a picture though - for future reference.

Hi Pàdruig
Great minds!
I promise to give it a good home.

It's back on the clock after being flushed lubed and edged. It's very nice in hand and is holding the edge as I hoped.

Rachel's eraser has a lovely font which does say age! This is newer, how newer perhaps Jack can tell, hopefully it belongs here in this thread?

The trademark is really appealing to me also, there's a medieval touch to it:)

I am glad it made it to a good home, it really is a fine looking knife. I like the tang stamp quite a bit and, of course, I've become a bit partial to swell center jacks.

Removed from a display board, this 3 1/8", horn-handled Jack has a hole drilled right through it!! But was never used, and works nicely!!🤔
The hole was used to secure the knife to a backboard. Crude but effective!!
