Montana indeed!!Aaaah if we swabbed that lovely Sheeosfoir Charlie - would we find just a little bit of DNA from a tracker in Montana?
I think it's very cool CharlieNot the most strikingly beautiful I*XL, but cool in its own right, this 3 3/4"
cast iron (or steel?) Jack is quite impressive to me!! Snappy, well marked, with lots of gravitas, but still not too heavy, I really like it!!

Thanks, Jack!
Thanks, Jack! You are right of course! Must be steel, as the handles are thin, and iron would be at risk of cracking!! Maybe Neal will have a picture also!!
I love the profile of this knife. Simple yet elegant lines. Not the most strikingly beautiful I*XL, but cool in its own right, this 3 3/4"

That sure is a beauty Augie, you are right- the Old Sheffield's of the day have incredible Stag on them- and there's a great example!
I wouldnt mind betting that the S[ring is near 1/4 inch thick!!! Just awesome powerful knives! I really like the Old Font of the Stampings and those Stovepipes!
I was intrigued so I looked up hunter, there were a couple of very well known Cutler Gentleman, Edward Hunter and Alfred Hunter, both separate from each other - but both apparently very well known for their Great Knives, then the bigger M. Hunter & Sons- theres quite the write up on this one which I didnt have time to get into at this moment.
Man...just look at that Stag Glow!
Been looking for a nice stag Sheffield curved blade rope knife for some time and managed to land this beauty last week. Made by Hunter, who I can find no information on other than one reference that states maybe mid 1800's. Other interesting stamps are the British Admiralty broad arrow and what looks like the number 104, these have been overstamped by broad arrows facing each other, my research says this designates that the knife was sold out of service or surplus. Common on old British firearms but not so much on knives.
Typical of Sheffield knives of this era it has knock out stag.View attachment 1587422View attachment 1587423View attachment 1587424View attachment 1587425View attachment 1587426View attachment 1587427View attachment 1587429
